    Blue Heron Bridge Trolls III

What are these fish? Looks like grunts of some sort, but don't recall seeing those gold bars. Start with REEF ID by Paul Human and Ned Deloach. Second, sign up to REEF and start doing surveys. Even beginner surveys are important. You will start realizing subtle differences in species, and your...

    Dive Guide too Fast?

My experience with guides is they go fast partly because the newer inexperienced divers think they will see more if going fast. On a fragile reef where if you go fast, you are above and away with less likelihood of kicking corals and such. The other thing, most divers do not have their buoyancy...

Lew Bayne (SeaJay) Deep South Divers

Wow. Just saw this. I remember him from the early days of the Megadive, a gathering of SB folk who met up at Ginnie Springs for the weekend. From all that's posted about him, he seems like he was a good guy.

    RIP Pufferfish, Jim

Pufferfish passed away recently. His daughter posted on another forum. I met Jim first in the early days of the MoF threads where he was a prolific poster and story teller. Eventually I did get to dive with him a few times. His knowledge of cameras was astonishing and detailed. His photography...

    Blue Heron Bridge Trolls III

Yep! 2 different times. Though I think the second time it may have been caught by accident, not sure.. but, yeah.. twice within about 20 minutes... two different locations but both on the east side docks north of the bridge

    Blue Heron Bridge Trolls III

Fun diving with you! Glad we got to meet up. The flag pirates.. yeah.. that's a good term! Holy cripes!!! I was verbose with my hand signals, but you and @Wayward Son didn't see the guy on the dock trying to steal it! Then later on a fisherman on the docks got my flag! What the heck!!!! My ear...

Pre H. Helene BHB, stormy with bouts of Sunshine. Storm blew threw when we arrived, then again as we were gearing up causing a late start to the dive. Vis was 15ft give or take and plenty of parking. tentative plans for diving tomorrow at the Bridge, weather permitting.. storm should be north...

Question Local divers, how do you motivate yourself when the weather is crap?

There's a fine line between crazy and adventuresous. Currently waiting for a squll line from the hurricane to pass so we can get in. FYI We are a few hundred miles away on the other coast in a more protected area. Buddy an I are not the only divers here.

    Scariest diving incident -- Lightning!

It makes references that lightning doesn't go deep, staying at 20-30ft is good. But if at the surface, get out asap.. "Some might think it is a good idea to stay underwater as lightning does not tend to penetrate very deeply into the water column, but this is not practical in most situations...

    Scariest diving incident -- Lightning!

I think it's a rite of passage to have a lightening storm and diving in Florida. I have a few stories of my own which are much better recited with a few beers (or rum!) around a campfire. Of particular was as a new diver, doing the dash similar to what you did. Had to get out (low on air) and...
