    DEEP DEEP diver??

How do you know if you've never been there ? If you have an interest in wrecks of a particular type/era, then you have to be prepared to go to whatever depth they sank at to go and see them, there's little point in only going half way F

    Aluminium/steel tanks: pros and cons?

If you're in Europe then tha vast majority of cylinders are steel anyway, mainly Faber lightweights, which are fine, if the 15l tend to be a little bouyant. Not sure about France, but in the UK cylinders come in at between £100-170 dependant on size, Al will probably be more, certainly not less...

    Most Basic Errors Caused Death

If your diving style involves not paying enough attention to gauges to accidentally run out, and the recommended panacea is a computerised alarm to tell you once you are imminently going to run out, then perhaps it is time to reconsider monitoring practise. If narcosis is an issue, then simply...

Should I buy a Suunto Vyper now?

Ther vyper, whilst conservative is a fine computer, and will out last any level of diving. No-one has yet explained any set of circumstances to me where I would choose to carry 3 separate nitrox mixes on any dive. Although AI were populart a few years back, I've not seen one anywhere for ages...

    does anyone carry second spg

course he can, he's only talking about air diving y as I read it, which doesn't really come under the heading of 'technical' anyway. As for the opinion that it's better to have 2 spg's to fail, instead of one like the rest of the world agree on, and the possibility of a snorkel or lack of it...

    Helium Grades

I wish you wouldn't keep bringing up the cost of He - we get seriously screwed here, I just had to pay the equivalent of $240 plus delivery for a J of He - and I have to go and get it from the ferry terminal 20 miles away :(

Suggestions for buddy that gets seasick on night dives?

I can vouch for cinnarizine, I live on an island 14 hours by ferry from mainland Scotland, and almost everyone takes this for those rolly trips on the boat. However I never take it when diving, as I simply fall asleep when taking it (good plan anyway at 3am in a F9 on the beam) the other thing...

Why would you want to dump weight?

Eeek! - can't you find some from a house renovation or something and make them for less? - if you were closer we re-leaded our roof last year, and I've got heaps of the stuff in the garden, plus some old lead piping just waiting for a use

Seem to have lost the fist attempt at replying to apologies if this is twice

    Diver death in Cornwall

Except that the numbers are still very small, so even a small rise/fall will look much more dramatic than it really is. There are always incidents around Easter weekend, statistically the 4 day holiday in England pushes the number of divers up out of proportion. As far as I know there hasn't...

    Anyone used Sportextreme?

Not had any experience of buying with them, however if you look at the diving details for my home area, Shetland on their website, just about every detail is wrong or spelt wrong or something suggesting a lack of thoroughness, which at the time I emailed them about, never got a reply (...

    Isle of Mull

Are you planning on shore diving or boat diving - I'm not sure if there are any commercial dive centres based on MUll, although there are plenty of salmon divers around, mainly based in Tobermory. I've done some good wreck dives in the area, but gone from Oban rather than Mull.

    bottom time definition?

But he clearly didn't, and remember in the US decompression is still taboo, whereas here it isn't. There is a world between tdi and padi training. Anyway, enough of semantics I'm finished work now, kits in the car, I'm going diving to catch some tea :)

    bottom time definition?

I disagree, yes by definition you are often extending your limits whilst training. However since it wasn't a training course, and the very questions posed by the original poster suggest they haven't a scooby how it works, means they haven't done enough for it to be safe. If I'm training...

Its not the size of your sausage.....its how you used it!!

Depends on where you are, in a lot of Europe, red is the 'normal' dsmb, yellow is a back-up/emergency signal only and an emergency of some sort will be assumed until proved otherwise - like anything essential carry at least 2 red and one yellow

Its not the size of your sausage.....its how you used it!!

I just got back from a weeks diving, and used my dsmb on half the dives. One dive the tide turned and built unexpectedly, I met the surface bouys going down at 27m 30 minutes from the surface -I need the security that the boat knows where I am, also the boat needs the security of knowing where...

What person of qualification can i dive with???

Shame really. I instruct for Scotsac, and while doing so I'm covered by their insurance. At one time I was a bsac member, but diving a rb it became increasingly difficult to do so within a club, so I gave up my membership eventually However for my own diving outwith the club, I carry Dan...

What person of qualification can i dive with???

Fair enough I 'spose. I've only ever done one dive at Stoney and that was back in the 80's - no great desire to go back, although if I've got to find a c-card to go, I'm really not going to bother - what ever happened to personal responsibility

    Diving in Uk

From London, your best bet for weekend diving is the south coast - generally speaking the further west you go the better the visibility. There are loads of boats, some better than others going out from the various ports - Littlehampton, Poole, Weymouth, Falmouth, Plymouth are all good sites with...

What person of qualification can i dive with???

Not that I've dived in a quarrry for years, but how on earth would anyone at an inland site know they've got 2 OD together anyway?
