    PADI AOW Course

I just completed my AOW course and found it to be educational and fun. Yes, they were "just another set of dives", but my instructor was very experienced (20 years) and added some helpful tips to be stronger and better divers. One thing I did notice, the dives are advanced in that they are...

    Suit within a suit

I was thinking the same thing about using Under Armour compression shorts. Instead I purchased a pair of Speedo Jammers which are the same thing. I wanted something other than a swimsuit under a wetsuit, but not the traditional Speedo, and knew that the Under Armour works well for wicking away...

    Table Rock Lake May 6 - 7

I will be down at Beaver Lake this weekend with the KC Dive Shop working on my AOW dives. Bill

    Advanced Open Water

Interesting read this thread is! :D I will be heading down to Beaver Lake, AR this weekend for my AOW dives. I can't wait! By the way, I have done most of these dives last year at Beaver, with a NAUI divemaster, but not an instructor. Therefore, I am now paying for the actual certification...

    Rescue Diver Cert!

I had to laugh on this post! I am going to Beaver Lake, AR this weekend for my AOW dives (I know, not related) and the weather report shows 69 and 30% chance of rain. Last weekend, it rained out my lake cleanup effort with my LDS and I am itching to get the hell out of dodge this weekend to go...

    Uwatec smartcom

Sounds good! I plan on purchasing this computer this Spring when I get the MK25/S600 from my LDS who is an authorized SP dealer. Now on the competitive price...that I'm not sure of. He is giving me 10% off so for both products, the total cost will be $1325. Of course, LP is about $300...

    Safety Stop

One plus One is....3!! Thanks everyone for the information. It pretty much answered my question. Bill

    Safety Stop

We were up and down mostly in the shallower levels of the lake - above the thermocline - as he managed to forget his thicker wetsuit. Bill

    Safety Stop

That's cool. We were pretty much "playing around" in relatively shallow water. With his type of diving, I question most of what he says and listen more to experienced divers and instructors. This is the same diver who managed to have his back turned to me and some 5 feet away when my tank...

    flying with scuba gear..

I am going to have to think about this one for my July trip to the Bahamas, on US Air no less. What's worse, is that when I go home to Denver for the holidays, people are transporting their skis and other gear, and I have never seen the airlines gripe about this type of equipment. Bill

    Safety Stop

I was diving last year in Beaver Lake and proceeded to do a safety stop after reaching at most 35 feet. My buddy and I had been moving along for 15-20 minutes at this same depth and he proceeded to surface, while I stayed put at 15 feet and did a 3 minute stop. I wasn't too concerned with...

    Aurora Res Park Rangers...

I have never been diving at Aurora, but used to fly-fish out there all the time. I do know what you mean about having to park and getting harassed by the rangers. Our parking sticker fell off due to the glue drying up and the ranger got all pissy. That sucks though that they would harass you...

Dive flag-Swim with it or anchor it?

I'm not sure what I would've done in that situation, but I would be pissed! Last year I went diving at Beaver Lake in AR and my dive buddy suggested we tow it around; the first time the cord got all tangled up while the second time we tied it off and then moved around. We moved a bit far as...

    LDS and buying gear

When I certified, my LDS carries SP and Oceanic, however the masks that he carries did not fit. As fit is extremely important in any piece of gear, especially the mask, I purchased an Aqua-Lung from a competitor. I got the normal BS from the LDS owner but that was it. My next purchase was a...

    watching into the blue

I completely agree with you on that! Jessica Alba looked great in the movie and on Scuba Diving (mag). Both used ASSets to make money! IMHO it's not really going to detract or downgrade the sport as it might peak people's interests. I liked the movie for the scenery but didn't necessarily...

    Jessica Alba does deco diving??

Of course you do! One that doesn't dive and doesn't like scantily clad women moving around for the pleasure of men! Bill

    Jessica Alba does deco diving??

I would have to agree on points #1 and #2!! Jessica Alba is damn HOT, and I don't care if it was a testosterone pump!! I would love to go diving with Jessica!! One has to love her bikini thong! Yummy! :) Ok, ok, back to earth now! I enjoyed the movie, but enjoyed it more with the diving...

    equalizing fast

I seem to have problems with one ear, my right ear, only when descending. I have recently seen my doctor on this and he suggested using NasalCort or Flonase on a regular basis, as well as using ear drops on a regular basis to remove unwanted wax. After seeing the video from UWTV and reading...

What's more important: brand or dealer?

Fortunately, the LDS that I have an excellent relationship with sells Oceanic and ScubaPro! I am leaning towards the MK25/S600 but also looking at the new Oceanic Delta 4. Personally if I were in your situation with the dilemna, I would go for whatever your budget, reviews, and "gut" feeling...
