    Morrison

Like nearly all cave divers out there, we don't want non-cave trained divers in the caves. Why? Because when divers die in caves, the land owners tend to not want divers in their caves anymore. I personally don't care if someone wants to be stupid despite knowing better, but when it threatens...

Info? Ginnie Springs and Vortex Spring

The basin is shallow and pretty (assuming no one's kicked up the bottom by the time you get there) and free to dive (which is nice). I've never been in the cavern zone there, but one of my first OW dives was at Morrison, and I enjoyed the hell out of it.

    Diving with Twins

While it's important to seek training for most things...the vast majority of divers I know seem to learn how to dive doubles through mentorship from more experienced divers. There's nothing too terribly hard about them, as long as you are willing to do the legwork, read up on it, obtain...

    Long Term Dive Goals

Right now, my short term goals are to vary my diving experience. A recent "interesting" dive taught me that I really have a narrow breadth of experience, and I need to dive much more different and challenging sites than what I've been doing for the last year or two. I'd also like to increase...

    "Piece of Paper Syndrome"

One thing that really struck me from reading the OP's initial post....dear god, this all happened on a rebreather. I've seen experienced and highly trained divers run into issues on a rebreather that might've seriously injured a lesser trained diver. When mentoring a new diver, one thing I...

Purchasing an Aluminum 80 Scuba Tank

Good point, Mike! I completely forgot about that...as long as the tank is made after 1989, it should be free of the problematic alloy.

Purchasing an Aluminum 80 Scuba Tank

It looks like it's new, and it comes with current hydro and visual inspection. Odds are, it's going to come empty, with the valve off, so you'll have to install the valve and get it filled. Some dive shops can be picky about filling a completely empty cylinder, so the worst thing is that you...

100+ Dives And I Still Suck

Yeah...um....I went on my first ocean dive EVER after logging nearly 300 dives in local quarries, lakes, freshwater springs and caves. I was absolutely amazed at the level of suckage I displayed on that first dive. Current? What's that? You mean I can't let go of the line and expect to stay in...

    Morrison Spring...Friday March 30th

Anyone want to dive Morrison's with me on Friday the 30th? I'll probably get there around noon and stay till 3-4pm or so. I *really* want to check out the cavern...I've dove the basin years ago (before they renovated the place) but never the cavern. Uh...make that April 30th...damn, this...

    ABWA for Sale?

They certainly aren't planning on closing! I think ABWA will be around for a long time to come...

Why do you use nitrox ?

I use Nitrox to reduce the amount of deco obligation I wind up with...air is cheap, but even a lean Nitrox mix appropriate for the MOD and depth really does a lot to reduce the time I've got to spend on deco. 130 feet for 30 min on air gives me a 20 foot stop of 33 min, but it's only 20 min on...

    ABWA for Sale?

They've been thinking about it for awhile. I don't believe they are actively marketing the quarry, but if the "right" person came along who would be willing to keep it a dive quarry, I think they might be willing to sell it. In any case, I doubt it will happen anytime soon, if at all...and I...

    Madison Quarry

I would pay $25 just to say I finally got to dive a rebreather :D

    losing your buddies

Try putting the slowest diver in front. If you know that you tend to swim faster, then putting the slower diver in front sets a reasonable pace for y'all. Sometimes, the slower diver simply can't keep up...and it's easy for the slower diver to get stressed trying to keep up, breathe too fast...

New diver lost in the arguments

Hmmm.... My experiences with DUI were a polar opposite of yours. I purchased the TLSSE model a little over a year ago...when it started leaking, I sent it back to DUI, fully expecting to pay for the repair. Not only did they repair it promptly (and free under warranty), but they included an...

    calling out the BP/w-philes

You know what they say about assumptions ;) The average SS plate does weigh around 5-6 lbs, and the AL ones weigh maybe 1-2 lbs. I'm sure there are heavier ones (maybe the DSS "long" plate?), but they are the exception, not the rule.

Is coming across a dead diver, that uncommon?

I thought that's why my cave instructor made me carry an extra safety reel...tie those dead bodies off to the side so they don't interfere with the gold line...
