No more Liquivision - What are you using

Well, after a lot of issues with Liquivision and their products/support, it is time for a switch. I like the Shearwater products. I want to stay with an OLED computer and need full TMx, 7-10 gasses. What are you guys having good luck with out there?

Wing For Independent Double AI 80s

I found that my Superwing was overkill for diving ITs. We did exactly what you are talking about in the Philippines and it made things so much easier. I ended up with a Rec wing since I was diving a 3mm suit. The picture shows how big the Superwing was. The recwing worked perfectly

What's the most you have butt-mounted comfortably?

I run backmount and I have 2 liftbags and a drift kit in an OMS mount that hangs behind me. When I have a large number of deco/stage bottles I will clip the necks of the empties off behind me on my hip D-Rings.

extending a recreational dive into short deco?

There is also a courtesy aspect in addition to the risks. If you are diving off of a dive boat with other divers, you need to let the operator know about this (and they will usually not like it) because if there is an accident and they need to recall people, they don't want to have to wait for...

Can open circuit technical divers go down to 400+ feet or is a CCR Rebreather required?

For me, they main drag about diving that deep on OC is the increased deco time (twice as long in some cases). You still have to carry the same amount of deco gas/bottles to cover a rebreather failure at depth but the hang time is rough on OC. 10min at 342 ft got us 1hr deco time. Luckily it...

If trimix allows divers to go to 330 feet, what gas/mixture is used to go to 400 feet?

I don't think it will hurt to answer the question. I don't get the feeling it is to facilitate a dive to 400fsw... If you assume a 130ft END (equivalent to diving air at 130ft) and a PPO2 of 1.4, You're looking at 11/62 (ish). 11% Oxygen and 62% Helium. There are some good apps that you can...

    Stupid donut question

BTW - There is no such thing as a stupid donut. Unless is is covered in peanuts..... That's just stupid!

    Stupid donut question

That is a strange comment. I agree with them. While a lift bag can certainly be used in an emergency as buoyancy, it should not be your 'go to back-up'. It takes time to deploy the bag and, in some cases, you don't want to take that much time to arrest a negative buoyancy situation. And 3mm...

Do training dives (at depth) count as your dive count for Tech cert?

Regarding the training dives in a lake/quarry. These can be good, controlled environments to hone skills but you definitely need to (time and money allowing of course) get into the ocean environments. The variables that can be presented to you by true ocean environments, even in a recreational...

    What was your deepest and...

For me - 342 fsw in Playa del Carmen. We had a balance to burn off from a cave course so we decided to do a 100M wall dive to burn it. They only had AL80's for doubles that shortened our bottom time to 10min with 55min of deco - ugh! We saw a lot of jacks and tuna even down there. Ambient...

Where was your deepest, most interesting, and/or most challenging night dive?

For me it was Subic Bay, Philippines. We were doing one of our trimix check-out dives and got started late so it was a night dive. At 175fsw the instructor swam off, moving the guideline to the anchor and left the 4 of us students on the wreck. We had to do a free ascent/deco from 175 at...

    Missing Diver at Lake Pleasant

Holy boredome Batman - is that 53 min at 20 ft? :)

    Missing Diver at Lake Pleasant

Yeah tell me about it. There are only a couple of shops that have boosters around here. As far as a rebreather and deco, if you're diving 250fsw open circuit on - say 10/50 and deco on 32 and 80 (for arguments sake) your PPO2 drops into the .5 - .8 range throughout parts of the ascent...

    Missing Diver at Lake Pleasant

If I don't have time to fill myself, back gas can run well over $300 for a couple of sets of doubles and then you have another 50-100 in oxygen for deco gas. This is where the Closed circuit guys really benefit (that and way less deco time!) their gas cost is WAY less. Have I mentioned that...

    Missing Diver at Lake Pleasant

Dan's group has been out there but I haven't gotteout in the last two weeks due to work. Hoping to get out there a couple of times next week. Helium is pricey when you are open circuit!

    Missing Diver at Lake Pleasant

Yeah Tortouise has some nasty viz. Glad you got out there though. If you can get out to tec island it gets nicer down deep but the shallow stuff is was soupy right now. Dan - how was it below 200 this weekend? I miss Playa del Carmen though - at 330fsw we could see down to the sand at 400...
