New to scuba diving and getting gear together

I will say that buy your second set of gear fist, similar to what @BalekFekete is saying. The whole, buy once, cry once deal is very real. Every time that I chose something because it was the cost effective version, I have since replaced it and would have been better off going for the higher...

    Name change issues?

If you are continuing to train, I would call up each agency and talk with them. You'll probably need to have cards reissued ( I would just do the most current/ advanced one).

Maintenance after 1st Dive Trip with New Gear

Agreed! I use one of the black and yellow bins that you can get from Costco or Home Depot. I add warm water, BCD shampoo, and Lemon Grenaide (Seasoft Pro BC Vests) to the water and mix. I then soak everything for a good 20-30 minutes to allow the salt crystals time to dissolve. I dump out...

Enriched Air Nitrox Certification - Why such variance in cost?

As with all PADI classes, you have "at home", class, and practical sections. For Nitrox, the practical part is usually rolled into the same time slot as the class. I'm guessing that your variation in prices comes into what's included regarding the "at home" portion. Your options are book...

    Storing gear in a garage

You can store the tank filled for a little while (a couple of months at a time), never store it empty. I store my gear in one of the yellow and black tubs that they sell at Costco.

    AOW, Jr vs Regular...

From where I stand, you are considering maximum depth, knowledge/skill development, and AOW qualifications dives. Maximum Depth: I would not use the maximum possible depth as the deciding factor because you/she might not be able to reach said depth becasue of the dive site's charactersitics...

    Sea sickness and liveaboards

I react similarly to your wife. I tried Dramamine, Dramamine with ginger additives and I finally moved on to the dissolvable Zofran. I have tried both the pill and the dissolvable version of Zofran. Both work, but I have found that the dissolvable version of Zofran will stop my nausea and...

"Review of the Top Ten 'Gear' of 2017": How useful, or useless, are these reviews ?

Personally, I would look at what your local dive shop offers. If they supply a wide range of bands, I would talk to the people at the shop and get their recommendations. I would also ask to try everything out in a pool before buying it. I will say that my best purchases are based on...

    Wetsuit for Plus Size Woman

I know that this thread is old, but I'm on the bigger side and love my AquaLung AquaFlex. I wear a men's 3XL and love it - very stretchy and comfortable for me, large chest and all.

What's in your bag, travel tips & tricks.

I agree with what a lot of other people have mentioned (scarves, battery packs, sunscreen, bug repelent, first aid kid, etc). And have a few other suggestions: I will add that I create an offline map of where I'm going with either Apple or Google maps for easy routing when I get somewhere. Wet...
