DIR- GUE Why are non-GUE divers so interested in what GUE does?

And there it is  You have to do things the GUE way or go take the highway, meaning other agencies. For me other agencies provided a better solution. In my case solutions outside of GUE because of back issues, I can't dive doubles (valve drill issues) anymore. GUE wasn't an option anymore...

DIR- GUE Why are non-GUE divers so interested in what GUE does?

You will recognize this I think. You have to comply with the GUE way of doing things like strictly following their training path, Tech 1 has to be one+ week somewhere abroad (even for the basic 10 meter skills which we could do right at home, TDI offers that and that suits me a whole lot...

DIR- GUE Why are non-GUE divers so interested in what GUE does?

I did GUE Fundies with tech rating, but chose IANTD for my JJ-CCR training. Met a very good instructor, on par with or even better than comparable GUE instructors (there aren't that many around here, just one, that do CCR). The thing I noticed is that IANTD is more of a 'do things how you...

    Sidempunt with out cert

I did it myself, though I can't recommend it for everyone. Took about 60 dives in total to get my gear behaving like I wanted it to behave. Had about 600 dives under my belt then. Diy is no shortcut to formal training.

CCR Try-dive: I was worse that I imagined and it was awesome!

Yep, it's the only way to justify a ccr. I know all about it

CCR Try-dive: I was worse that I imagined and it was awesome!

The first 4 to 5 dives are dreadful...then the fun starts, and the wallet drain

    Am i approaching this right

Not sure who teaches this, but to my knowledge you first have to pass MOD 1. Then dive for 25 hours or so till the instructor thinks you're ready and then go on to MOD 2 (Normoxic). That's what I did. My class mate is an OC normoxic instructor and did go the same route. To my knowledge you...

    Ah, got it.

No Stupid Question - O2 Rebreather Mode?

Keeping setpoint manual to 1.0? Not that hard to do, did that with MOD 1 training already.

Chalk Lake fatality - Hemmoor, Germany

Hemmoor is a deep (55 meters) fresh water lake with a beautiful surrounding. Lot's of interesting stuff left behind from the former quarry. There are not much sites in the northern part of Germany where you can dive this deep with very clear water (10 to 15 meters sight is not uncommon...

How to best use a computer to be a good diver

My advice: treat your computer as an advisor. A trusted advisor but still an advisor. You're in charge of the dive and need to understand what you're doing. Next is to understand what the computer is telling you and how you should respond to the info your computer gives you. Never ever solely...

Importance of CO2 and scrubber life sensors

If so, buy a bigger scrubber. Mine does 3 hours according to the manufacturer on the standard scrubber. I'am done after diving for 3 hours to be honest.

DIR- Generic Tdi Normoxic trimix or CCR?

Th Helium in itself is. Problem is, you don't what was in there before the filled the cilinder. Before returning to the filling station there could have been some nasty stuff pumped in the cilinder. Vacuuming it is safer.

Rescue Cert, is it truly a must have cert, or not?

I don't think the having the cert in iteself is important. Having EFR and rescue skills however is. I never did rec rescue (no cert), but did practice rescue skills in my tech training. Did EFR as a separate course. It gave me confidence tot do more advanced dives, knowing what to do when...

    Question APEKS MTX RC

The good news is: they both breathe fine. The bad news is: they cost a lot of money. I have both, SP for sidemount, Apeks for doubles. SP breathe a little easier imo, but both do their job as expected.

Opinions on separate Wing inflate (drysuit inflation bottle?)

I use dil for my wing (which I never use) and have a 2 liter bottle separate with plain air for my drysuit (which I use for buoyancy). I took a while to get used, but once I had my weight dialed in I find it easy to dive this way.

    GUE Fundamentals

What he probably meant was: if you take your skills and experience with you while doing Fundies and further, you will only have to learn the specific GUE procedures. Diving is diving, no matter if it's GUE or something else. You have to do all the training courses to proceed however, no...

    Air integration for tech dives

Exactly, you don't even need a gauge because you need to know you have enough gas to get back safe from the start. Gauge (AI or otherwise) is to verify during the dive if you have somekind of issue. If you don't know from the start of the dive there's enough gas to get back, you should not even...

    Future of OC trimix

Ghe, ghe...30+ meter MOD 1 certification dive last weekend. Used 15 bar oxygen, 40 bar diluent out of 3 liter tanks. Had to do all kind of skill drills like bailout, flushing, etc. Dive time over an hour with quite a lot of time at 30 meters (even slight deco). During a normal dive I would not...

    Future of OC trimix

So with OC you don't need to bring reserve gas? OC or CCR doesn't matter, you need to bring extra gas for when things don't go as planned.
