???Future of Open Circuit Mixed Gas and Rebreather Diving???

Agree, studying narcosis in diving is very difficult. Being narced varies from person to person, from day to day, with depth, with level of anxiety, etc. Also external conditions change from dive to dive. There's no lab condition to study narcosis which poses a real problem. However, that does...

???Future of Open Circuit Mixed Gas and Rebreather Diving???

Here's for one: Effects of Hyperbaric Nitrogen Narcosis on Cognitive Performance in Recreational air SCUBA Divers: An Auditory Event-related Brain Potentials Study Although nitrogen narcosis is claimed to be completely reversible within several minutes by ascending to a shallower depth...

???Future of Open Circuit Mixed Gas and Rebreather Diving???

Science says otherwise. Narcosis does not go away immediately when you ascend. You may feel less affected when going up, but you're still affected. So please be careful and take it easy when affected seriously.

DIR- GUE GUE DPV class: Experiences? Worth it? What do you learn?

Questions: - Has anybody here taken a GUE DPV class? If so, how was it? Do you recommend taking it? Yep, I did. Never used a DPV on forehand and that made it quite interesting to say the least :) Struggled a lot during those 4 days, but also learned a lot. - What do you learn in the GUE DPV...

???Future of Open Circuit Mixed Gas and Rebreather Diving???

I would say the most critical part for longevity is electronics and software. When they are proprietary and the supplier goes out of business, you probably lose support. On the other side of things is Shearwater, Shearwater is a big name in the ccr industry. Different brands of rebreathers use...

    Does constipation increase buoyancy?

I think this is the reason you felt too buoyant. Not being relaxed in the water makes you tighten your muscles and take deeper breaths. When you're relaxed and easy breathing it way easier to stay down.

???Future of Open Circuit Mixed Gas and Rebreather Diving???

Sound like the self driving mode from Tesla. I don't rely on that either. Automated systems won't be fool proof for a long time to come because they can only react to what they know, they can't intepret unknown situations. The power of human intelligence is that they can interpret situations and...

DIR- Generic Why no D-Ring on right hip?

I dive a JJ-CCR non DIR config. I do not dive with long hose, bail out cilinders on both sides, no spg on the right but pressure on my NERD, etc. For me it is a deliberate choice not to dive DIR CCR. Imo it really doesn't matter how you configure your setup, as long as it fits your diving in a...

    Beginner question for rebreathers

Wise decision. As long as you can do the dives with D12, it's the way to go. I still love the simplicity of a single tank air dive compared to my RB. It almost a zen feeling versus working hard. On deeper dives however, I love my CCR. An RB really comes into it's own with longer and deeper...

    Beginner question for rebreathers

My advice: don't focus on a air/nitrox rebreather. A 'full scale' rebreather is at the same price level and can do anything you want, now and in the future. If weight and size is a real concern for you, look at Choptima, Triton of KISS Sidewinder ccr. They are really light weight and travel...

    Recommendation on tech progression

Yep, after 60+ hours on the loop still not as comfortable and precise with my JJ as with doubles. I doubt if I ever will be as comfortable as with OC. OC is way easier in the shallows. CCR is easy in the deep.

DIR- GUE Finding teammates after failing fundamentals

That's exactly what the class is for. Took me three attempts to pass tech rating because of wanting to do Tech1, then quit GUE all togheter because I bought a rebreather and wasn't interested in the GUE ccr config. Fundies made me a way better diver however, glad I did it.

    Tech expectations

I thought I did not have to much of an issue with narcosis until I did my first 50 meter dive with trimix 18/45. Then I realized how much narcosis affected me. Nowadays I do not dive below 30m without trimix. The problem here is that you don't know what you don't know.

    Recommendation on tech progression

I bought a rebreather last year (JJ-CCR) and did training with IANTD. I did not have formal tech training nor on using stages except for a workshop or two and some diving I did on my own. Knowing what I know now, I must conclude that having some formal training on how to handle stages helps a...

RAID vs SDI vs GUE vs...

Agree, it depends on the instructor. However, if you want to get deep in Tech diving the agency on the card does matter. In my opinion when you want to start deco diving, cave or rebreather, you're better of with a card from a Tech diving oriented agency. There's just a very different kind of...

Should I wear a snorkel or not

Well that's the issue, with my Hogarthian config it does get in the way. Therefore I never use a snorkel. But if it works for you, great!

    Question CCR for recreational depths

All objective reasons aside, yesterday I dove OC for the first time in 2 years. Have been solely diving my JJ all that time. Pro's OC versus CCR: - Simple, a lot less fuss kitting up. - My lungs worked again, aka I could ascend and descend by changing lung capacity. - It was fun to get back...
