    DPV: training.

The only thing a DPV course is good for is when you want to rent one. In most cases you have to show your card.

    GUE or IANTD

Time and location flexibilty was also one of the reasons for me to choose IANTD. Another thing to consider is how you want to progress? Do you want to dive rebreather in the future?Do you like the GUE rebreather setup? Maybe go Sidemount? Answering this question may steer your descision.

    GUE or IANTD

Funny, I went the opposite way. I did GUE Fundies (Tech rating) and wanted to proceed with Tech 1. Never came round to that for several reasons and got interested in CCR's while cotmeplating Tech 1. GUE CCR did not fit me for different reasons (mainly the GUE JJ config which I don't like at...

Review Scubatron GBM Chest Mount nCCR

A rebreather is still a rebreather. There's no such thing as a simple rebreather. It does not matter where and how you put it. Rebreathers are complex machines that require a lot of dedication. Stay with OC until you really need a rebreather for the kind of diving you want to do. I really...

Question Trying to decide on a rebreather unit

Side and chest mounted ccr's need more configuration and lots more practice in my experience. They work just as well as back mount, just not so forgiving and easy while donning as backmount though. If you don't have or don't want to spend a lot of dives configuring and practicing go for...

Question Trying to decide on a rebreather unit

It's very new. It's made by XCCR. Looks like a very nice unit. Slightly larger than the Triton.

Why do Used Divesoft Liberty's Lose so much value?

Having looked into the Liberty very seriously next to the JJ (which I did buy), imo the Liberty helps the diver more than other units. It helps the diver a lot with electronics and software (checklists, monitoring, etc.). The downside, which steared me away from the Liberty, was that all that...

    Prep for Cavern/Intro

Yes, we do totally agree. However, if someone is not able to hold position, he or she should not even consider cave diving at all in my opinion. It's a waste of time and money because a good instructor won't let them pass anyway.

    Prep for Cavern/Intro

My advice is: get in the water and do everything. Hovering motionless is easy, hovering while doing things is hard. It doesn't matter what you do, using a reel, deploying an smb, laying down and picking up stages but do something. That's the skill you will need most. Being able to perform tasks...

    Computeur redundancy

Sure, they might (almost certain) give different deco values but that's not an issue diving a predetermined plan. They all do time and depth.

    Filament Choice

The question is: in what conditions will it be used? Low stress -> PETG, ABS, even PLA, etc. High stress and seawater -> engineering materials like Polycarbonate? The latter is very hard to print, but is one of the toughest materials to use. Many car parts are made of PC. There are lots of...

What would you do if you saw someone diving a tank marked "For paintball use only"?

I probably would chat with them about their training en experience. Diving with a tank labled 'paintbaal' is not a 'no go' perse imo. A tank is just a tank, the content and safety (valve, breathing gas clean, etc.) of the tank is what counts.

Is certification necessary for shallow water diving?

In fact they die also after training and sometimes even during training. Training and certification in itself mean nothing. The most important aspect of training is understanding and mitigation of risks if you ask me. The card is just to get fills.

Apart from a JJ CCR, what else do I need to order?

Don buy anything until you have actually seen and been diving the unit for a while. Comes with Petrel 3 computer. What I added after some 50 hours of diving and knowing what I wanted to change: - BOV Divesoft - Shearwater Nerd - O2 and dil transmitter - Extra 3 l tanks O2 and dil - Drysuit...

Is certification necessary for shallow water diving?

What you're actually saying imo is: the training is not worth the money because the instructor does'nt do his job right. I would agree with that. The majority of dive instructors should do a better job. It's hard to find a really good instructor not knowing anything about diving.

    Bcd filled with water

Seems you're very new to diving. Possibly you are overweighted and need to compensate with your BCD. I would say it's not uncommon to have a lot of water in your BCD considering your experience. My advice would be to try and shave of some weight gradually as your experience grows. You will...

    Mod 3 readiness

I'am thought those skills in my MOD 2 class 2 years ago. It could be dependant on the instructor though. My instructor has been tech diving for more than 30 years with several types of rebreathers and did multi 100 meter plus dives. Anyhow, I'am glad I have learned those skills. I experienced...

Question Is AOW a waste of time?

My advice to your friend: get a high paying job, get self employed and rich or marry a rich wife. Otherwise, go freediving, forget about Tech diving :crafty: It takes a ton of courses, hundreds of dives and quite some dedicated dive vacations before even thinking about going CCR. CCR alone will...

Question Tech diving in Red Sea North?

For rec diving you can get away with that. For long tech dives? I would not recommend a wetsuit, but a dry suit any time. Maybe in the Philipines or somewhere like that you can get away with a wetsuit during long dives, not the Red Sea in my experience.
