    High end drysuit comparability

Have bought three dry suits during my diving career. Santi E.Lite (about 150 dives), Mares XR (about 90 dives) and SF Tech (hundreds of dives). I threw the first two in the bin, the SF Tech will probably last me the rest of my diving career (which I hope will be very long). Only thing replaced...

    DIR- GUE CCR Fundamentals

If this is true, GUE aligns more with the current practice of other agencies. IANTD for instance requires no tech certifications before starting with CCR. To me it sounds a logical step in development. Regarding the cost of Tech 1 diving, these days it makes more sense to skip OC tech and start...

Does a scooter count as 'redundant buoyancy'?

In a real emergency I would ditch what I could do without. No equipment is worth my life or in other words: when I'am dead that equipment won't be of any use to me. So the real question here is: at what depth do you plan to ditch what and can you still get up? If so, no problem as far as I'am...

Halcyon Evolve JJ Wing to replace the standard wing?

I replaced the standard wing with a Tecline wing. I'am diving the 'normal' JJ. Reason for me was that I could hardly keep my chin above water with multiple bail outs. Not nice in choppy conditions. The Tecline wing has slighly more buoyancy than the JJ wing, which raises me a little bit higher...

Separate battery for heating or combined battery with lighting?

Separate. Never compromise your light. Also+, you have a spare battery for your light in case of failure. I do not want any batteries in my drysuit so I carry them on my belt or on the back of my rebreather.

    Bov or dsv JJ

There's no good or bad soulution as far as I'am concerned. I use a BOV connected to my bailout with QC6 and am happy with it. In case of a CO2 hit, had one recently, switching is really easy compared to having to switch to a necklaced regulator. When hyperventilating, it not so easy to take...

DIR- Generic Any GUE instructor teaching Fundamentals in sidemount?

There's one big downside on switching. To become really skilled on sidemount, you have to dive it a lot. It's a very different config than backmount. I know, because I switch between OC sidemount and CC backmount regurlarly. But I agree, one should choose the best config if possible. If not...

DIR- Generic Any GUE instructor teaching Fundamentals in sidemount?

That makes sense. In those cases it's logical to restrict divers to GUE trained divers with compatible gear. In other dives, it really does not matter if you're GUE trained or not.

Question What is the life expectancy of a ECCR?

That's what I meant with 'parts'. Not just o-rings, but all kind of specific pieces that are proprietry. .

Question What is the life expectancy of a ECCR?

As long as one can get replacement electronics and parts when they are broken for the CCR I guess.

Question Brazil ATR 22 flat spin crash

As far as I have understood: possibly ice on the wings caused loss of lift. No plane can fly without lift.

    JJ vs Cmoptima vs Xccr(fx)

As far as I'am concerned it's not the best rig for anything, but thats my opnion. It's heavy, complex and does not have real benefits imo.

    JJ vs Cmoptima vs Xccr(fx)

Depends on your config: - Backmount = bailout as stage (although some strap big cilinders on the JJ itself with a lot of hoses, look for GUE JJ); - Front mount: your choice. You can dive single/double setup on your back or sidemount with or without stages; - Sidemount: you did not mention it...

    JJ vs Cmoptima vs Xccr(fx)

I dive a JJ. It's been great so far, but it's heavy and bulky. Not easy to travel with and (cave/wreck) restrictions are not always easy to manage. The JJ is most suited for open water imho, but you can do restrictions witin reason. Have not tried any other rebreathers yet, so I can't tell you...

Question Can I modify Scuba gear like GUE?

What problem are you trying to solve? It's not clear to me what the preceived benefit of this config is to a DIR long hose/backup under the chin. My advice: get trained first, then think about your setup :)

    Is "bailout stashing" a thing?

The question is: do you follow the same route back as you went in/down? If 100% yes, you can stash bailout at a usable depth. If not, you have to take all of it with you. For cave diving you plan your route and, in almost all cases, go back the same route. Wreck diving is completely different...

    Which drysuit?!

To each their own. I rather dive dry for all of these dives than be wet, mis dives and buy another suit again. I dive the SF-Tech and I love it to death. My third suit (Santi and Mares gone before it) and I won't buy any other brand. Don't need to buy another suit anyway because I think this one...

    DPV: training.

Using it is not difficult, even in a cave  At least getting in is easy, getting out through all the silt you stirred up not knowing how to use a DPV is very difficult. I have seen a lot of DPV divers that know how to propel themselves forward with a DPV, but do not know how to use it...

    DPV: training.

No it's not, but handling a DPV in more complex situations requires more skills.

    DPV: training.

True, a tech/cave DPV course is something totally different from an rec course. I did GUE DPV 1 and IANTD DPV. Learned a lot. Some buddy's did rec DPV and did not learn all the stuff you mentioned. However, they can rent the same DPV as me. The question is: what is your goal? Able to rent a...
