    GUE Fundamentals

It's a personal decision. As I am not Cave 2 trained, I can't do a GUE Cave sidemount dive. I do dive sidemount when I feel like it. It's not that I consider the GUE option suboptimal, I'am not trained to do the dive GUE sidemount style. Rebreather choice is also a personal decision. Due to...

    GUE Fundamentals

Exactly what I was saying in response to a question what dives could be done without a DIR compliant rig. I'am not confused about GUE guidelines. The point I wanted to make is that you choose to dive GUE style with your teammates or not. GUE is not mandatory in any way. If something else...

    GUE Fundamentals

Me doing a 1 hour dive on 1 meter just hovering over the reef :D Sure I can take a GUE rigged rebreather weighing sixty kilos and a drysuit, but why? All I need is some simple gear to do this dive. Doing a serious dive is different. But even then, caves with restrictions can be tricky...

DIR- GUE Fundies Rec vs Tec rating

Yes, doing it yourself is a risk to learning the wrong things, I admit that. If possible, practice with someone who knows what is required. Should have mentioned that. The reason I mentioned this is that I struggled a lot to keep my position in the team. If you can keep your position and being...

DIR- GUE Fundies Rec vs Tec rating

The better your buoyancy is, the easier Fundies will be for you. The most important skill imo is hovering. Being able to hold your position is very impotant to do the skills.

    GUE Fundamentals

I'll try to answer this from my own perspective: 1) Yep, the gear config needs to be according to GUE standards. So BP/W, long hose and backup under chin, goodman handle light, backup light, etc. and you're good to go. You can also rent this stuff when needed. No need to own it. 2) The team...

    GUE Fundamentals

I have the same feeling with PADI, CMAS, SSI, IANTD :) For me, I take the most important things I learned from training that work for me. Doesn't matter if I dive sidemount, OC backmount or CCR. Some skills can be used in any config, others are totally useless (for me: snorkel, jacket and...

    GUE Fundamentals

As Ginti stated, you need BP/W. Single tank is fine. No jacket style BCD allowed. It's not about redundant air and so on. It's about team diving and personal skills. You could rent all the stuff without having diving it on forehand, but it is then almost guaranteed you won't pass.

TDI - Intro to Tech - Necessary?

As far as I'am concerned, I dive GUE style only when I'am in a GUE class or dive in a GUE team. Second computer would be no problem outside class. Otherwise I do what I like including solo diving and sidemount. For CCR I do not like the GUE style, so I won't be diving that way. Nobody stops you...

TDI - Intro to Tech - Necessary?

Same story here. Thought I was good until I did Fundies. Have passed tech rating after three tries. Wanted to go for Tech 1, so I needed the cert. Otherwise, I would not have cared about the cert. Stil practicing skills every dive to get better. Funny thing is, I don't want to dive GUE CCR so I...

TDI - Intro to Tech - Necessary?

Yep, tech diving is not a hobby anymore. It requires dedication far beyond rec diving. If you're not willing to invest in gear, time and skills, don't even think about it. I have done about 700 dives. Done intro to tech successfully. Many don't even make it because their skills are not good...

THE "PERFECT ( being horizontal ) TRIM" HOAX

Well, I can't do a frog kick that way, maybe because I'am not a frog. Please show some video how you do a real frog kick.

How would you do the frog kick that way?

    My start in Tech diving

I remember my first experience with doubles and drysuit. I literally crawled upside down onto shore:yeahbaby:Took quite some dives to really get used to doubles, although I had been diving from the start with BP/W. I was curious what skills were different. I have been SSI trained from the...

    Where to start technical diving

It depends a lot on the student I guess. Do you want to be taken by the instructor through the course or do you have your goals clear and the instructor is just there to guide you in the right direction.

brand new to idea of scooters

I suggest to try before you buy. A scooter is a lot of fun while scootering, but a pita when not using it. Drag, constantly in the way, occupies one hand all the time. It's not like a stage you tuck away. You will understand once you have tried it.

Could you elaborate what these skills are? I'am very curious.

    Hydration: decompression efficacy vs IPE/IPO

This is also questioned, see: Dehydration is how you define it: comparison of 318 blood and urine athlete spot checks | BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine. Good hydration is unfortunately not easy measurable. Best is to drink during the day normal amounts of fluid, preferably water.

When is it okay to abandon your dive buddy?

I have to disagree with this. I regard a buddy as someone who's diving with me the same day, same water. You and you alone are responsible for your safety. I know agencies teach otherwise, but I don't agree with them. In het best situation a buddy is able to help you or other way around. At...
