    Battery availability

3-4 years ago I needed a CR2450 and couldn't find one anywhere on the island. On our last trip, though, which was about a year ago, they were everywhere. Agree with the posts about price, though, it'd be a lot less expensive to bring a couple with you.

    Tipping for Bonaire boat dives?

I just got back from there, it was my first trip, so I followed my typical Cozumel practice of tipping $5 per tank, per diver. The DM's actually seemed pleasantly surprised that I tipped them, I got the impression that its not usually done there. And I didn't see too many other divers tipping...

    Lionfish.....unfortunately

My daughter and I just got back last Saturday, we were there a week. And I will echo the comment about the things being everywhere. We saw one at Weber's Joy that was as big as a football.

Anyone headed to Bonaire March 19-27? I'm going all alone!

Erica, my daughter and I will be there March 19-26, we're staying at Buddy Dive. Its our first trip there as well. You're welcome to tag along with us. Send me a note, we'll make some plans. Robert

    Kids diving in Cozumel?

Columbia Shallow. The whole dive is basically one big safety stop, and you are limited only by your air consumption. And that is one sweet dive. My daughter and I have seen eagle rays, nurse sharks, just about everything imaginable on that reef. The perfect shallow dive as far as I'm...

    First trip March 19-26

After 8 consecutive trips to Cozumel, my daughter and I have decided to branch out, finally I guess. We're headed to Bonaire March 19-26, we're staying at Buddy Dive. We're looking forward to trying something new, if its anything like what we've seen on this forum, I think we're in for a...

    How is Dive Paradise?

I second all of the comments on this thread. My daughter and I go to Coz twice a year, we always stay at Hotel Cozumel, always dive with Dive Paradise.

    tipping

Good point. I've been tipping $5 per tank per diver, or thereabouts, for about five years now, plus a bump at the end of the week if we've been with the same DM every day and he's done a good job. And there are none better than Martin Matu at Dive Paradise, but I digress. Probably more than...

    Diver Accident Death

So sad. I will say a prayer for all of them.

Planning first trip and need help

Agree, with the exception of the unlimited shore dives. I think their tank rental is $7 or thereabouts and the shore dive is, I think, pretty lame.

Mainland - Turtles and Tarpon dive from BA/Coz

A bunch. Can't remember an exact count obviously but it seemed like we were running into one about every 25 yards or so. The tarpon were the neatest, though, we actually saw schools of them as opposed to individual fish. When you get 10-15 tarpon together it looks like a big silver cloud...

Mainland - Turtles and Tarpon dive from BA/Coz

My daughter and I did that dive summer before last, either late June, early July. I can't really remember the name either, but we actually went twice in one week in a fast boat with Dive Paradise. They charged us an extra $5 I think per diver because of the extra gas to get over there, but it...

    April in Cozumel

Wet Wendy's tomorrow, right? We have an afternoon dive scheduled, we probably won't get down there until about 5:30 or 6, you think folks will still be around?

My daughter and I will try to make it, it'd be nice to meet everyone. See you next week. Robert

    What will you pack?

Agreed. As I said in my other post, live and learn. I learned when I mentioned the same thing to our dive instructor when we got home that year. He lit me up like a pinball machine. Which is why spare batteries are now always the first thing on our packing list.

    What will you pack?

My daughter and I were making our packing list today, I checked - CR2450 is what my computer takes. Like I said, its been a couple years, but IIRC I did find a few places that had the round lithiums but nothing near my size. Anyway, whatever, its on our list now. And I will give my extra dive...

    What will you pack?

Extra batteries for your dive computer. Mine uses the round ones, about the size of a quarter, don't know the number right off hand. Anyway, a couple summers ago the battery went dead, I went to every dive shop on the island, along with every other place I could think of. NOBODY had them. I...

    Scuba with Allison?

She's great. My daughter and I got our cards together 5 years ago, we took our first OW trip to Coz. I wanted to get a private boat for just the two of us, since it was our first dive. The experience could not have been better, she did a magnificent job in introducing two newbies to OW diving...
