    Coral bleaching?

I'm fairly certain these were taken at Columbia Shallow. The lace coral seemed to be more affected by it than anything else I saw. As noted, though, it wasn't like these white patches were everywhere, actually they were pretty few and far between. I'm coming back in August and I'll see if I...

    Coral bleaching?

I searched around before I posted this, there doesn't appear to have been any significant discussion about this in quite awhile that I could find. Anyway, I was in Coz for a week in May, and for the first time ever I noticed coral bleaching, or at least what appears to be coral bleaching to me...

Is anyone concerned about this spreading to Cozumel?

I went to the island twice this year, once in April, and again just this past September. Both times walking to town, right around this same place, I was asked the same thing and when I said "no," I was then asked if I wanted to meet the guys' "sister." Which had never happened in any previous...

    Political unrest?

My wife and I are going to Roatan in February, this will be our first trip there. I was wondering if anyone had any first-hand knowledge of the effect, if any, that the recent political unrest over the presidential election is having on the island. I suspect that Roatan is like Cozumel (where...

    Dive Paradise?

Then go with the Dive Paradise fast boats. I always use their fast boats and I can count on one hand the number of times we HAVEN'T done a surface interval at the beach, and that's normally either because there wasn't any room to tie up at the pier or we were going straight to a very shallow...

    Dive Paradise?

I've used them a lot on 17 trips to Cozumel over 11+ years. Biggest operator on the island from what I've heard for many years, don't know if they measure that by boats or divers carried or what, but they have people and equipment all over the place. I think they're a very solid operator that...

    List the Dive Ops

I've been to Coz 17 times now, stayed at Hotel Coz every time, with AI every time, except once. In a nutshell I will say that I completely agree with ReefHound and cicopo. The food is good and unless you are the absolute pickiest of eaters, you won't go hungry. For the price difference the...

    UFO under Dive Paradise Pier

I think they're talking about the pier right across the street from Hotel Cozumel, where the Dive Paradise dive shop is.

Anyone have any recent experience in Zanzibar, need some help

Thanks to those who replied. I'm late giving a report on our dive experience, such as it is (we only dove one day). We would up going with Spanish Dancer as they were only a two minute walk away from our resort. I echo the comment about "purse snatching area," above, as even that short walk...

Any Two-Tank Twilight Trips or Night Dives Next Week?

Agree with Dave, check with Aldora, I've done twilight dives with them before and they do an excellent job. Also check with Tres Pelicanos, their minimum for twilight dives is 3, not 4, so you might have better luck filling a boat.

I gave my daughter the "Cozumel Addiction"

I did something similar. My family went to Cancun on a summer vacation 12 years ago. They were advertising one of those resort courses at the hotel, you know the ones where they throw you in a swimming pool for a couple hours and then take you out for a shallow dive the next day. Neither my...

Anyone have any recent experience in Zanzibar, need some help

My youngest daughter is in Tanzania with the Peace Corps, my wife and I are going over there the last two weeks of June to see her, we have the standard touristy-safari things planned on the mainland, and our trip includes 3 nights on Zanzibar, we're staying at the Myblue Boutique Hotel, which...

    Where are the Lion Fish

Yep. Just got back from a week in Coz, saw maybe 3 fish the whole week on the more popular reefs. Then ran into 5 big ones on one dive at Las Palmas. For whatever reason, we wound up diving that site twice last week, I saw the same fish in the same places on both dives. And, of course, this...

    Trip report 2-4 through 2-11-17

Agree, I've seen it happen a few times, and I was the "sharee" one time, my first time in Coz, I was a brand new diver and going through air at a high rate. We were diving Palancar Caves as I recall, and the dive op had a rule that nobody could go through the swim throughs unless they had at...

    current concerns

What he said. I don't have 22 years in Coz (yet, although I'm working on it), but I do have 10+ now, and over 200 dives on every reef on the island with only a couple of exceptions, and I've never had even a whiff of a downcurrent. As others have said, best to always be aware, but I think your...

    Sleeping Shark Trips

Its on our bucket list, we wanted to go back in March, but you need 4 divers to go, right? Never could get the other two, next time hopefully.

Hotel Cozumel And Dive Paradise Trip Report

Nice trip report, and as a diver that has stayed/dove with Hotel Coz and Dive Paradise close to 20 times now, I thought your report was spot on accurate and shows exactly why we keep going back there every time.

    Divers Surprised By Active Submarine

My daughter and I saw it when we were diving the C-53 last year, it came by, left, and then circled back around us again, it was pretty cool. And I remember seeing warning signs on it, something like "Don't approach, dangerous propellers," which tells me that they're used to divers getting...
