Pancho's is now open, I think their first day was earlier this week, like maybe Monday. We had dinner there last night, and it was very good. They're actually sitting most of the diners outside the front door on a new patio that they've constructed. Makes for a very good view of the water...

They were as of about a week ago, which was the last time I was at the shop down there. I was also told that Dive Paradise had closed their main office in town and is now running everything out of the shop across the street from Hotel Cozumel.

Darn good trip report, thanks for sharing all of that. I can confirm your first bullet point, and have posted that same opinion on other threads on this board - I've been on the island for almost three weeks now, my last trip was January of 2020 and I have probably 30+ more trips here going...

One other thing, on this - I've been walking all over the place, just as recently as last night, and the locals were out on pretty much every beach that I saw, including the one right downtown. Is that prohibition just being ignored?

I second these points, and these emotions. I've been on the island since July 4. The level of mask compliance that I have seen is very high, 95%+ most days, but they seem to come off pretty quick at the local public beaches. Other than that, what I've seen overall is a level of seriousness...

We ate at Buccanos last night, they're open for dinner Thurs - Sat of each week. This is their third weekend and the manager said so far they've had good traffic. Pancho's Backyard is not open yet.

I feel your pain. My wife and I were supposed to have left yesterday for a two week vacation. We have another trip scheduled in July with our daughters and their families, I'm just hoping now that we can make that one happen! Keep your chin up, this too shall pass.
