    OMS Manifold valve parts

The copper gasket is almost certainly not the leak point. It gets compressed when you tighten the bonnet nut, so it's normal for it to look flattened. As others have mentioned, it's usually the teflon washer. You might also have to replace the stem and/or bonnet nut if they've been damaged...

    Band/Manifold compatibility

I'd thought that the Dive Rite and Halcyon manifolds were OEMed by the same company. This may have changed, however. I have two sets of doubles; one with an OMS adjustable manifold, and another with a newer Dive Rite manifold. The dive rite manifold is noticeably smaller than both my OMS...

VIP on AL cylinders = stupid $$$ game

The scuba industry says it should be one year because, unlike most compressed gas tanks, scuba tanks are used in salt water. They are right. Aluminum tanks can corrode very badly if salt gets inside - enough to be condemned within the space of a year. I've killed two tanks like this in the...

    Apeks freeflow control device

These can be really annoying in that sometimes divers will forget that a valve is open because the 2nd stage is turned off. We have a bunch of these where I work, and I've often walked in to find that a reg has been left pressurized for several days straight. This is very bad for the 1st stage...

    Deco Regs and O2 Cleaning

Aqualung/Apeks service kits do use O2 compatible parts, and their regs are assembled with Christolube. Aside from the green accents, there is no physical difference between the O2-clean versions of the DS4 or Calypso and the regular models. The difference is that the O2-clean regs are...

    Deco Regs and O2 Cleaning

Actually, it's usually the other way around - they avoid saying so to avoid liability.

    Poseidon Hoses - Best source???

Tech Diving Limited and North East Scuba Supply both have them also, IIRC. (don't have the links handy but you can Google 'em).

Poseidon Cyklon 5000 vs Cyklon 300

I already answered these questions in your other thread. The metal body breathes better (imo) because the Cyklon's venturi assist works by directing the air through the mouthpiece. On the plastic Cyklons, they changed the shape slightly to match the Jetstream mouthpiece and it doesn't flow...

Poseidon Cyklon 5000 vs Cyklon 300

The Cyklon 5000 used the same 1st stage as the current Jetsream. It's not very well balanced and the IP does change a bit, but it's a lot better than the old model. I don't notice any perceptible change in breathing resistance with mine. Not true! Actually, because of the Cyklon's...

Poseidon Cyklon 5000 vs Cyklon 300

It is a much larger IP swing than most regs - I was surprised the first time I saw it. It can actually be handy sometimes, because it's really easy to tell how full your tank is by the way your reg is performing. For all I know this may have been intentional, since pressure gauges weren't...

Poseidon Cyklon 5000 vs Cyklon 300

No, it doesn't work like that. In unbalanced diaphragm regs, the IP rises as tank pressure drops. To adjust them properly, they need to be tuned to breathe optimally on a near-empty tank. If you adjust it to breathe easier on a high pressure tank, it'll start to leak when the pressure gets...

Good reg set up for SEA 1st - advice needed

IMO, the Micra 2nd stage sucks - you might want to buy a new 2nd stage and use the Micra as an octo. The SEA is a perfectly normal 1st stage, so almost any 2nd stage will work fine with it. If you're a beginning diver and don't want to do spend heaps of money, any of the no-frills...

Poseidon Cyklon 5000 vs Cyklon 300

I wouldn't use a Cyklon 300 on anything over 3000 PSI. I'm sure the first stage can handle higher pressures, but the unbalanced design makes it breathe like crap when the tank pressure is too high. These regs were designed for low pressure tanks and are best at 2500 PSI and lower.

    Filling double tank setup

Why? Once, I got my tanks back from a shop and found that they'd closed the isolator and filled them separately, resulting in two slightly different nitrox mixes. Apparently someone wasted a bunch of time...

    buying used tanks

The figure is probably higher than 2%. We have 50ish 6351 tanks at my workplace, and I've condemned 3 in the past year for cracks. They're quite safe if they're inspected properly but they won't last forever. I wouldn't buy an out-of-hydro aluminum tank for $50, even if it was recent. Odds...

    Cyklon 2nd stage ?

Hey, another Cyklon packrat :) But it's nothing to be ashamed of! They're great regs, and if you like how they work it's hard to use anything else. I have 2 old 300s, one 5000, and a few 2nd stages. The main issue with the Cyklon 300 is that the 1st stage isn't balanced, so it has a huge...

    Conshelf XIV Rebuild Questions

Aqua Lung's rationale has to do with air flow in the 1st stage - apparently the Conshelf can be pressurized very quickly. More than anything, this is a case of the company being extremely anal. In the real world a Conshelf should be fine with the usual 40% or less rule. The Titan and Legend...

How much should a used tank cost?

I wouldn't pay more than $60 for a used tank, even with current vip/hydro. Around here, used tanks are plentiful and can be had for less than $20 each if you're patient and don't mind taking 'em to hydro. Even with old aluminum tanks, the failure rate is still low enough that there's no...

Surely it's not supposed to be this difficult

Twin 80s are easy to dive. They're pretty neutral in the water and the weight distribution isn't much different than a single 80. Your problem is that you were task-loaded, overweighted, and wearing a bunch of strange gear. This is normal. Chances are, if they'd given you a single tank on...
