What Reg to buy? Mk17 s600 or xtx50

I have some experience with Apeks regs, and like them a lot. Recently I have been diving one of those cheap Chinese (actually Taiwanese) knockoff second stages (even though Chris never sent me the T-shirt he promised) coupled with a Titan first stage. When I received that second stage, I took it...

Are there parts for Sherwood Regs?

New plastic parts for the older regs have pretty well dried up. But one can always buy a cheap reg on ebay and cannibalize it for parts. The one important new internal part for older regs that is becoming tough is the piston with the integral dry bleed orifice. The rest of the internal service...

What kind of gear do I really need?

You will like Dolphie and Randy at NADCO. They are really down-to-earth with training and are very good instructors.

    Cheap entry level wrist computer

Perhaps the Finland version of the Gekko is different, but our 2 US versions do not have gauge mode. Our Zoop is identical except that there no longer is a need for a "hack" to download.

    Navigating Via GPS

LOL Nothing like making the simple complicated. Get an inexpensive bottom machine (sonar).

    Cayman Brac to GCM/Connection Times

The 2:55 layover should be plenty of time, particularly at that time of morning.

Needed a pony reg, was this a good purchase? (older MR12 off ebay)

That is an MR-12 IV. Late '80's early '90's vintage. I had one and really liked it for deep air. The main reason I sold it was the incredibly short 1st stage seat life and (at the time) difficulty obtaining seats and other parts. Nice reg--when it worked.

Stopping clip from sliding up and down reg hose

A zip tie will be ok, but it must be oriented so that the latch part does not slip through the opening in the clip. Actually, a rubber band on the hose is simple and effective.

Regulators will flood when upside down?

Hungover, Cockroaches live everywhere in the US, including San Diego. They really seem to have an appetite for silicone parts such as diaphragms, mouthpieces, etc. Here in the Keys we have some SERIOUS roaches. I always store my regs, masks, etc. in roach proof containers.

Should I get a Second stage alt or air2

Or a corroded fitting. A large percentage of very experienced divers do not use hose protectors.

    Compass: digital versus analog

Maybe it's because I am not a trusting person, but I only use an analog compass underwater. As an example, I have 3 (yes 3) GPS's on my boat, but I always check what they are telling me against an analog magnetic compass.

    Unexpected rapid ascent

Ladyfish, If your bcd was self inflating, the thing to have done is disconnect the inflator hose. If for some reason this cannot be done immediately, hold the deflate button fully open while holding it HIGHER than the bcd, until the hose can be disconnected. Most deflators (I don't know about...

Do you ever service your SPG?

I replace the spool o-rings (or complete spool) when they leak. Throw away the spg when it fails. In almost 5000 dives, I have replaced 2 spg's. Both were Dacor branded and from the '80's.

Suunto Solution (the old one NOT Alpha)

The Solution was long before 2004. By that time, Suunto was at the end of the later, but similar, Favor line.

Balanced 2nd Stage with Unbalanced Alternate

Interesting that you say that. At one point I had a Minimus (not for long), and it is one of the few octos I tried that I thought breathed worse than the Aqua Lung ABS.

    Snorling first stage

Are you sure that it is from the first stage? I occasionally get a similar sound from a second stage.

    HOG Reg Serviceability

Exactly! I see no need for you to keep defending yourself and your company. Anyone with even a semblance of intelligence knows that out-of-stock/back order situations happen with EVERY manufacturer. And, speaking of intelligence: What experienced tech would take a reg apart before a customer's...

Environmental Devastation approved for Cayman Brac

You had to fly back through Grand because the Brac airport has no ability to scan baggage. A new security section is being constructed so that they can screen baggage, thus enabling flights to other countries directly from the Brac.

    Difference between Aqualung regulators

I would have to say none of the ones you have selected. But possibly the Calypso/Titan if you can find one WITHOUT the proprietary quick detach hose connector. I agree with what was said above about the Titan LX.

    What is an "advanced" diver?

Are you saying that divers whose total experience consists of 500+ resort dives paddling along behind a dive master are the advanced divers they claim to be?
