How do you transport your gear? Car/truck/C-130?

Soon, I'll be seeing how my new LR3/Discovery works as a dive support vehicle. I like the way that 1/2 of the tailgate comes down, while the upper 1/2 goes up, I think it will make a good seat for changing on. The older style of having it swing would be nice of course. It's been awesome in...

Scuba Tank Explosion - Myth or Reality?

I've got 2 friends who would question everything Mythbusters do. 1 who had a can/bottle of pop explode in his car on a very hot day. And the other who had to pay the cleaning expenses. But Mythbusters said it wouldn't happen.

Scuba Tank Explosion - Myth or Reality?

On the weekend I got certified, one of the instructors leading us had a burst disc go. It was Canada Day, so middle of summer. I don't know all the details, but I do know it failed while he was driving. So, there were 2 things that needed replacing, the burst disc, and his underwear.

another good day away from work

I've got a friend from Thunder Bay, seeing him out in shorts on a cold Southern Ontario winter day is just amusing. And then hearing him complain about the snow and whiteout conditions we get here is also amusing. You Thunder Bay guys are just nuts.

    Changing Suunto D9 Software

That would be interesting to know if there was a firmware upgrade available, and what new features and options it would have..

    Winter Diving in Ontario?

There is Innerkip, just over an hour west of Toronto. They do have ice diving there in the winter. Doubt there will be much ice there in December. Although with the summer we're having, probably be iced over next month anyway.

    MacDive and Oceanic VT3 help

Whenever I use the program, I always have to rescan the ports before selecting one to use, or it just fails. That's with a Mares Puck and Drak interface though.

Transmitter...is fitting onto first stage always easy and quick?

Yes, your body is made of mostly water, and water will attenuate an RF signal. Wait... aren't we're diving in water? It shouldn't make any difference whether the water the signal has to travel through is in our body or outside it.

    Divers acting badly....

Now, of course, what's the other side of the story? Typical reporting, only shows one side of the story. Not wanting to stick up for the divers who truly are rude and obnoxious, but if 1 is like that, and there are 100 there, you can't label the other 99 like that. Newspapers do it all the time...

Getting in shape a few weeks before a dive

Could you get a bit more detailed here? How many reps per set? How many sets per session as well? Also, what weight to start at? You've left it much too vague to be of any assistance.

    Newbie question about weighting/buoyancy

Yup, I've lost a fair bit recently as well. Most of it before taking the classes. The last time I was in the water, I was in the ocean in Cuba, and weighed 230. Then I got into the pool to tread water in class weighing 210. I sank like a rock. The weight loss and the different water densities...

    Can't clear my mask

I had a problem with this in my second class. First class was no problem, couldn't understand what all the fuss was about. I did it, and it wasn't an issue, did it a few more times that class no problem. Second class comes, and we're doing it again. I just couldn't do it, I tried hard to do it...

    Soft Weights

Has anyone ever tried using Tungsten as a weight material? It's denser than lead and it's much safer as well. And also really hard to work with, can't just cast it like lead. I'd assume it's also more expensive as well.

You know, I wasn't even aware that this was even possible. It gives me something to try and practice.

    1030SW and depth gauge

Sorry, the 1030SW has a built in depth gauge, it records the depth (or altitude for that matter) into the EXIF data. I just wondered if it keeps going past the 33' limit without a case.

    1030SW and depth gauge

Hi, my first post here.... Does anyone know if the 1030SW keeps recording depth past 33'? And does it freak out when you hit that number? Since the camera without housing is only rated for that depth? Or for that matter, is there a setting somewhere that I haven't found to tell it that...
