    Howse Breakwater these days?

Every time I check a health code, it seems to only be Stillwater Cove. What are those filthy golf people doing?

2006 North Coast Camp & Dive

Poor Dan! He came all the way up and didn't get to do any dives. He did haul both Jim and me up a tree though (not at the same time). I should be there for the SoCal trip; had such a great time and wonderful seeing everyone. I'll miss the North Coast hardcore diving, though the entry at...

Info on Shore diving Stillwater Cove? (Monterey)

Did Stillwater once... wasn't a fan, though the free hot showers were nice. Long surface swim; shallow waters, and ultra snooty golf snobs... tempted to walk across the greens dripping salt water with the attitude issues going. Better spots... Lobos, Monastery, Butterfly House, (those two...

    Wahoo! Grenada!!

Congrats to your older brother! I'm sure I'll be crippled in debt before too long... I've heard one of the dive shops near the campus lets you run up a tab, so that alone should be sufficient to have me begging for broken kneecaps. Great site! I'd really like to dive the Bianca C with some...

    Wahoo! Grenada!!

Hi all! New to this forum, and have never dived in the Caribbean. With the exception of a phenomenal trip to the Philippines last November, I've been a circa 55 degree, low viz California diver. I just got word that I've been accepted to SGU in Grenada for medical school in either August...

    hero among us

Uhh... thank you all. This thread is quite a surprise. I'm actually not feeling guilty. I know I did all I could, but that doesn't make the outcome any easier, particularly since I ended up driving the hysterical family to the (wrong) hospital, complete with the screaming ten year old that...

    Freshwater Dive Sites in CA???

Ta-hoe. Haven't dived Shasta Lake. My old instructor also has dived Donner Lake, but when asked about it, would *only* say "cold". Apparently that distracted him from viz, air, life, etc. Just "cold". I'm not really a freshwater person, but I imagine if I were, I'd go back to Tahoe. This...

New diver, no diving partner, what do I do?

Ahhh, the pleasures of an el nino year... I'm waiting for it to get up near 58 so I can yank the hood off again, but it seems to be heading more for the high 40s, which is cold enough to make my jaw ache. I got spoiled the year I started diving though. Got certed in April, it got cold in...

    Female divers using BP/W

I love my TransPac as well, though I'd probably consider a TransPlate too. I went with the TransPac because it was more inexpensive, and extremely comfortable, but I imagine you could trick out the Transplate to be the exact same way. Only complaint with the Transpac is the lack of pockets...

    Another "WWYD?" question

I've gone up first and I've sent others up first (ONLY if they're comfortable with it). I won't do it on a shore dive, but I don't usually have a float, so that might make a difference. For a swim in, I figure a diver (experienced or otherwise) can have problems on the surface that impede...

Is there any extra concerns with divers who have HIV?

I wouldn't think buddy breathing would be as much of a concern, though the mouthpiece scratching gums is a good point. But when you pass the reg through the water, since HIV is so susceptible to the elements, I'd think the salt water would destroy it fast. Perhaps taking a little more time...

    scopalomine patch vs. pills

Thanks for posting the info. I'll definitely give the pill a try if I can, for one reason, I'm always open to new ideas on keeping myself less sick, since even with the patch, it barely holds me. On a bad swell day, the patch will essentially keep me functional enough to be able to get my gear...

    iPODing underwater

I do like the idea of narrated podcasts for certain sites like giving you the history of a wreck. Other than that... I do ADORE music and have an extensive music library that encompasses anything, but I actually like the relative silence, plus I like to be able to listen for boats or other...
