    Info Aqualung Financial Troubles

I know, right! Who in the corporate world actually believes that this kind of language a) makes any sense and b) makes people believe it? Besides, in this case I don't think AL needs "people centric cultural improvement practices." It needs to cut the fat, produce quality products, and get...

    Snorkeling Advice/Questions

Diving down to 25' while snorkeling is definitely possible but for most people it will take some practice to do. The limiting factor will be your ability to equalize. There are several methods of equalization, with the traditional Valsalva being the easiest to teach but arguably the worst one...

New fins question - Quattro vs Superchannel vs RK3 vs Lightjet

I used Superchannels before moving on to Quattros. Both are great, but the Quattros are stiffer and I found them more powerful. Since then I’ve moved on to RK3s for drysuit diving and sold both sets of Avantis. I love my RK3s and don’t find them floppy, but then again my local diving doesn’t...

Do you wear a dive watch? (not computer)

As long as it's 22mm wide, you'll be fine. Enjoy!

Do you wear a dive watch? (not computer)

@mje113 I should add one thing: if you go with a strap or bracelet that's not specifically made for a Seiko dive watch, you will need to get a pair of "slim fat" spring bars. Seiko uses "fat boy" spring bars that are thicker than regular ones. This means that your stock spring bars may not fit...

Do you wear a dive watch? (not computer)

That’s a SKXA35, which, if I’m correct, has a 22mm lug width. Lots of strap and bracelet options. If you want a stock Seiko strap you can order their black strap and it will come with a metal keeper with “Seiko” on it. Lots of NATO options as well. I get mine from Crown and Buckle. Their premium...

I know! I'm kicking myself for not getting a 2nd gen Orange Monster when they came out. I wanted one, but already had an orange SKX. Now I really wish I had one.

I’m wearing that same Seiko Monster right now. It’s one of my favorites!

It also has a slightly different seconds hand. The other SKX series watches have the lollipop on the back end. Of all the many watches I own, the one I will never part with is my SKX011 (the orange face version). It was the first dive watch I bought, and two decades later it's still going...

    Cold water & wet suit

What is the water temperature you intend to dive? And, how cold tolerant are you? For cold water wetsuit diving, most people use a 7mm jacket over a 7mm Farmer John. You'll want at least 5mm gloves, 7mm boots, and a hood (7mm, or 10mm if you are really prone to getting cold). Regular...

Do you wear a dive watch? (not computer)

I see. I use a Peregrine as a backup, but only when I'm on multi-day dive trips. I bring along a small SPG in my bag too just in case. But for local diving I don't bother with a backup. If my computer or transmitter fails, I'll just thumb the dive and head home.

By all means dive the way you like and prefer. But I don't see how diving tables, SPG, depth gauge, and watch is less gear than me with my Teric and a transmitter.

Both are great watches. That Seiko 7548 was the first quartz dive watch. Amazing piece!

Do you wear a dive watch? (not computer)

You'll be hard pressed to find anyone who only uses a watch, depth gauge, and tables to dive. It's just such a suboptimal approach that it makes no sense anymore given how good dive computers are. Some people say it's good to have a watch as a backup in case of a computer failure, but that...

Chest pain after second open water dive

It’s never a bad idea to get it checked out by a medical professional. Did you ascend at all while holding your breath? Holding your breath while diving isn’t an issue in and of itself; it is a problem if you ascend while doing it. Mediastinal emphysema typically causes chest pain, usually...

    Duck dive for descent?

If you have to work/kick to get down to 3-5m at the start of a dive, how are you holding your safety stop at the end of the dive? I can see maybe having to push down for a few feet on the very first dive of a trip with a bone dry wetsuit. But 3-5m?

Question Shallow post-dive weight check in pool?

Just do it at the start of your first dive in the Bahamas. Let your buddy know you need to do a weight check before you descend, and do it the way you were trained. Then, to really dial it in further, do another one at the end of your dive after breathing or purging your tank down to 50...

Unpressurised Dry Suit for Shallow Surface Supplied Air Diving

Exactly. Do one dive where you take a suit squeeze in the nutsack and you'll never dive with a squeeze again.

Diving with a thicker wetsuit than necessary?

While, as @Rilelen said, being hot on a dive can be uncomfortable, it is far preferable to being cold. Wear your 5mm suit and just pull down the collar and scoop up some cooler water from time to time if you find you're getting too warm. If you find that you are getting really (and...
