    DIR- Generic gradient factors

Sigh. Apparently, we've come a long way from justifying deep stops by attacking "bend and mend" models. Now that research suggests that deep stops potentially cause more issues than they cure, the solution is "don't worry, we'll just do more mending on the shallow stop." Sounds like the...

    Tungsten weights for scuba

I salute you. Too bad depleted uranium is not good for you. Lots of it laying around. Unfortunately, Tungsten's melting point appears to be over 6000°F, about 10x that of lead, so molding your own would be quite a challenge.

    Tungsten weights for scuba

That's gonna be pricey. A 1kg/2.2 lb cube on eBay is $100 and it appear to be more elsewhere. Out of curiosity, what's the need?

    Fathom CCR vs JJ-CCR

@_Ralph, you get used to managing the solenoid on an eCCR. You learn to anticipate and stay ahead of it, taking it into account. It becomes automatic and those buoyancy struggles go away. For example, if you descent a little and add DIL to keep up the loop volume, you know that's going to...

Cabin Baggage and UW Camera Gear

Read the fine print on the website. Camera equipment (reasonably sized personal), computers, prescription meds, and some other things often don't count towards weight. I pack that stuff in a "module" in my carry on so I can pull it out when it comes time for weighing. Bigger stuff, like dome...

Why O2 before Air for PPB Nitrox?

It's your responsibility with your nitrox/O2 clean tanks to keep them that way. Not doing that puts the blender at risk. The fill station should not put regular air in a nitrox tank. They can put hyperfiltered air, sometimes called EAN21, in there - no problem. It isn't "air" per se that is...

    Beginner Regulator Maintenance

I agree it is not hard stuff, but I'd recommend again that it is a good idea to go through it the first time with someone that has done it. There's just stuff that is helpful, tricks of the trade, things to be careful about, etc. Your own comfort level will be a lot higher. I did sort of an...

    Does GoPro have color adjust?

They are both good for the intended purpose - there, I said it. Which you choose depends on your priorities and the factors have been well explained above. I like the screen and user replaceable battery of the GP plus really good stabilization and a better ecosystem of filters, macro lenses...

Watch with Similar Algorithm for Partner (and buddy)

I think the need to match algorithms for recreational diving is vastly overstated. Since you're thinking about tec, the MK1 is a good choice for you, but you say she's not interested in tec. She doesn't need that kind of capability. Algorithm matching is much more important for tec diving...

When the thought of taking your mask off underwater just freaks you out

I find it helpful to have folks practice in the shallow end or on the steps - a place they are totally secure. Just breath off the 2nd stage and slowly submerge face and get comfortable with that again and again. No distractions with a mask, buoyancy, clearing, worry about being submerged and...

Why do I sink when I turn upside-down?

Unless you are venting air from your BC, the only reasons would be: 1. Your breathing changes and you are unconsciously breathing more shallow when upside down, or; 2. You weren't really neutral to begin with, but were masking that with some light finning. This is common, particularly if you...

    BCD size question

I've found that BCDs tend to run large. It is one of the paradoxes that defy explanation - wetsuits run small, BCDs run big.

    Beginner Regulator Maintenance

I don't have dimensions. Attaching a page from the service manual that shows it. You can build it around your first stage pretty easily. You don't have to bolt it down the way it shows. It's easy to make. Won't work with every first stage, but is great with my Apeks and Zeagles.

    Beginner Regulator Maintenance

You can also build a wood box. Zeagle sells them, but you can make one easily. They are super handy for holding the first stage without having to use CO2 cartridges or the official factory tool to screw into a port.

    Does GoPro have color adjust?

The blue/green cast is a function of the fact that water filters out reds and yellows. You'll find it is the case everywhere. It isn't a function of your particular dive sites. The more water sunlight has to pass through on its way to your camera, the bluer and greener it will get. Add the...

    Does GoPro have color adjust?

Lights are great, but they have a much shorter range than you'd expect. Range, even for powerful lights is measured in just a few feet, at most. Action cams have a very wide field of view, so the lights need to as well. So, it's nice to be able to remove the filter for closer range subject...

    Beginner Regulator Maintenance

This. You can google and find most of those manuals. I know the Apeks are out there because I recently downloaded them myself. Apeks manuals are pretty good, but be aware that most of the manuals are written for an audience that basically knows what they are doing already. You'll need a...

    Does GoPro have color adjust?

Not binary. 2-3 would cover almost anything. On a wet filter, scratches really don't show unless it's a true gouge. Is it going to be a perfect color balanced image -- not always. But the goal is to get it within the range of something that you can adjust in post before you run out of...

    Does GoPro have color adjust?

If you are otherwise happy with the camera, just find a cheap filter and hold it on with a rubber band if you need to. You can buy all sorts of filter materials on Amazon and cut them to size yourself. There's no doubt that a recent GoPro or Paralenz is a better camera, but if the only thing...

Effect of gas density while deep diving

Further to this.... Reviewing the Mitchell and Anthony paper, I don't see a specific reference to how QinetiQ calculated gas density -- i.e., were the densities for the dives in the database calculated at "Standard Temperature" of 0°C or the "Normal Temperature" of 20°C that is used in...
