remote exhaust, or a plain elbow ?

There are failure points that are mostly theoretical and failure points that are items of real concern, especially since you're talking about tech applications. This is the latter. Plain elbow every time.

    Decompression Theory

The Buhlmann model tracks all compartments and mandates a stop when necessary to keep any of the compartments from exceeding the M-value for that compartment (as that value may be adjusted by whatever GF you pick). That is the "limiting" tissue. Think of it as 16 simultaneous and wholly...

    Apeks Freeflow Control Device

I do use them on my bailouts (along with an OPV). Bailout regs don't get used much and can get cruddy quickly if water gets in the first stage because it tends to sit there for a while. I like to keep the system pressurized to make sure water doesn't migrate down the hose to the first stage...

ATX DS4 first stage blow out!

A total aberration. For those reading along, if in the future @rsingler and I ever disagree about anything having to do with regulators, you should listen to him and ignore me. In this case, it's only because I have several DS4s that I just serviced. In fact, one of them had an IP problem...

ATX DS4 first stage blow out!

Assuming threads are intact, the only way it could have blown off (by definition) is if it was almost entirely unscrewed. Otherwise, the threads would be trashed. Having a leak in that spot is not uncommon on any DIN reg. If an inexperienced diver attempts to loosen the first stage from the...

ATX DS4 first stage blow out!

I promise you it will. It's just an o-ring that goes around the circumference of the filter, lightly holding it in place, and then face seals on the body of the first stage - exactly like your DIN fitting does on the tank valve. If you back it off, it will leak - significantly - just as it...

ATX DS4 first stage blow out!

What's amazing is that it came so fully unscrewed before being detected. Had it been even a little loose on prior dives there would have been a ton of bubbling. FWIW, as long as you don't lose the sintered filter, the o-ring that retains it is nothing special. Same as LP port on the first stage.

Putting a Pregnant 14 Foot Tiger Shark in Tonic Immobility

Very cool. Beautiful animal. But there's no eff'n way I'm rubbing a Tiger's snout. One day that will end badly.

    Camera Rig Negativity

Sounds great. Doing much the same sort of photography at Bikini this summer. Let me know what you think about the UW Technics converter. I've been contemplating that as well.

    Camera Rig Negativity

Yes. It works well. Doing the math, you would think it would give you an additional 2x time (2500mah vs 1100 or 1200). In practice, I think there is some inefficiency. I would guesstimate that it slightly more than doubles what I would get on internal battery alone. The early versions of...

Sony a6500 strobes will not fire

Duh. Sorry, I should have paid more attention to your post. Not my day.

    Camera Rig Negativity

On my A6500, you can deploy, but not retract. The little lever just presses the pop up button. Unless the A6400 has some sort of power retraction, my guess is that it's a one way operation. Convenient, as it's easy to forget to pop up the flash before sealing the housing. Turning off the...

    Camera Rig Negativity

That surprises me, but I can't argue with success. Maybe I'll give that a try for some accessories. I assume this is the stuff with the smooth outside finish rather than the stuff that is more like a pool noodle? @Nemrod, I measured my Nauticam CF arms. They are 60x200mm. That particular size...

Sony a6500 strobes will not fire

I assume to the pop up flash is firing. Check to make sure it is able to pop all the way up to align with where it is supposed to be in the housing. Try, temporarily, increasing flash exposure compensation to increase output. Check your fiber optics. Seems unlikely that both broke at once, but...

Rebreather as bailout for sat divers

The substance of the discussion is interesting, but wading through the "¿Quien Es Mas Macho?" snarkiness is tiresome.

    Camera Rig Negativity

That works fine for shallow dives, but that is pretty compressible stuff. The nice thing about the CF floats is that they work just as well at 200'+. I don't that foam would work so well at 7atm plus. You can get some burly closed cell foam that is more robust, but it usually comes in...

    Camera Rig Negativity

Good advice above. FWIW, I have an A6500 in a Nauticam housing and use 2x of the Nauticam Carbon Fiber Float arms. Those are clamped to the housing with shorter conventional arms outboard of those for the strobes. I'd have to check on whether the Nauticam float arms are the 50x250mm version...

Thoughts on diving in the middle of dental root canal?

I've had one crown. I had a trip scheduled in the middle - while it had a temporary cap and final crown was being made. IIRC, it was a trip for CCR Mod 2 training, so normoxic depths. Never caused me a problem. Ymmv, of course.

Fiji Airways - weighing carry-on bags at SFO?

    DiveNav has closed

I think you got lucky. I don't have a comprehensive list of the problems my buddy experienced but the ones I was present for were a shoddy battery compartment/contact situation that he had to fix himself to keep the battery in place (and maybe one of the sensors rattling around inside, I can't...
