    Wakatobi, Woooohooo!

Interesting points, but a few comments: 1) the flight of $300 should be factored into total costs as it is require to get you to Wakatobi from Bali. Please keep in mind that EVERYTHING at wakatobi has to be shipped in - there is NO local infrastructure to supply Wakatobi. Look to North...

    Wakatobi, Woooohooo!

I agree, they have reacted to comments. For example, they've commented here about the poor air quality that we had in the SCUBA tanks (my reg was brand new and accumualted a terrible brown staining on the first stage filter), acknowledged it (Click here) and stated they replaced the valve on...

    us diver Scan 4 Computer

I've used one for more than 10 years - it operates by calculating the 12 tissue group modified Haldenian method (great, but a tad conservative), has full air integration and is very reliable. I especially like the bar graphs along with the digital numeral readouts It does not have a...

You also can not change the battery yourself, which is the biggest detriment for me. Buy a mosquito and you can change it yourself.

    Mergui Archipelago liveaboard recommendations

I second that - multiple returns to Ocean Rover and looking forward to their trip next month! NOTE- There are a lot less expensive options that will get you into the sea (Heck, Richilieu Rock is worth it in ANY boat, even a dinghy). On my first trip to Land Of Smile (LOS) in 1996, I went...

    Wakatobi, Woooohooo!

Sounds like you had a heck of a time - congrats. I'm sure that part of situation I experienced was Lorenz/the crew's reaction from the previous trip where two diver's got bent and had to be evacuated. It sure seemed they were overly bearing, wanting us to be regimented. Then again, it...

    The Smallest Underwater Video Cameras?

Sony has now produced the PC1000, three chip camera on the PC330 chassis, so the size is quite comparable.

    HID Vs Halogen Video Lights

The Elite with the three levels of power looks like the most attractive option to me. I talked with Dan Baldocchi of Light & Motion at their Booth in the Long Beach SCUBA show this past weekend and he says the HID color spectrum is closer to that of sunlight.

Bunaken Island, Manado, North Sulawesi Part One of Three

    Richelieu Rock question

I've been on four liveaboard trips and still think that Richilieu Rock has the best diving in the area short of an excursion to Myanmur

Thailand in May: Ko Tao, Lanta or Phi Phi??

PS - drBill is making a bit out of the Tsunami affecting dive sites from what the dive guides on www.ocean-rover.com have said (personally, I haven't seen it since then), but he is right on Koh Lanta not ahving much for diving. If you could find a day boat travelling South from Koh Lanta to...

Thailand in May: Ko Tao, Lanta or Phi Phi??

Koh Tao. stevenl hit it on the head - The prevailing seasonal weather means the time you are going is better for the Gulf than over in the Andaman Sea area.

Three days on Bali - how to maximize bottom time

If you have no other considerations, then the hands down choice above all others is to go North to the Lovina town area and dive on Menjagen Island. It is a fantastic wall (I love wall diving so this is truly a jaded opinion) that drifts slowly to a sand saddle of garden eels. The amazing...

    Where is Pattaya?

Pattaya per se, doesn't have much in the way of SCUBA diving, but Koh Samet and further East at Koh Chang have some. If you can travel, head down to Koh Tao and dive the Chumphon Pinnacle. If you could head further away to the West, then I'd recommend Krabi / Koh Phi-Phi and find a boat to...

    Wakatobi, Woooohooo!

I've been there and won't return. Yes, diving was nice on the first dive each day when the boats take you to the offshore wall at the fringing reef of the island ~6+ Km away. If you've been to other areas in Indonesia, Wakatobi just doesn't compare: 1) Two divers got bent on the trip...

Socorro / Revillagigedos trip 2005 Nautilus Explorer

Additional Note: Upon any incident such as #5 above (diver's in water not being picked up within 40 mins) Mike Lever calls the whole crew together, discusses the scenario and changes are made to prevent it. If you have ever organized a dive club trip, then you'll appreciate how Mike Lever...

Socorro / Revillagigedos trip 2005 Nautilus Explorer

Fantastic trip, great ship, wonderful crew and great diving. We saw schooling Hammerhead sharks, Silver tip sharks, Dusky Sharks, Galapagos sharks, Silky Sharks White tip Sharks and Manta rays. The surprize of the trip was the bottom sealife because it isn't in any of the Solmar V or Nautilus...
