My dive shop provided everything except mask, snorkel, weights and fins for all 15 of us. There were different regs and bcs to try...I don't think I used to same gear twice for all of the sessions. After the course the shop offered discounts to us to build our own package deal...worked out...
I agree with the home turf approach. I'm in the Buffalo, NY area. Did my OW in a local Quarry (30 ft deep mud puddle) then a nav course and the Niagara River drift dive (major thrill ride when the current's up!!!). Home turf conditions up here are tough...cold, muddy, etc...then I went to St...
My son and I did a discover diving excursion on a cruise. That was in 2007. We haven't even thought about another cruise since then. It seems every dive shop I've seen has a few ways to get you in the water. We don't know how long you're going to be there? I'd have to say go, check it out...
I'm new here and would like to add a countdown timer but I don't see any obvious way to do it? Also I see a lot of users with various quotes and other things (countdown timers) attached to thier posts. How do I do this???
Thanks
Yeah, leave yourself the option of keeping notes about anytime you put your gear on and get in the water. What better place to do that than in your logbook...it's your history underwater.
Hey, maybe think about doing PADI AOW down there...it's not that expensive, you do your next 5 dives with a professional and you can move to the next level of diving in 2 to 3 days...awsome experience!!!
I would purchase a top of the line high performance regulator first then you know what you have to breathe with and you know and are in control of its maintenance. The rest of the gear you can piece together as time allows but don't skimp on your reg...
When I was very new to diving I had trouble with weighting and that "newbie" leg buoyancy thing...so I bought a pair of 2 lb leg weights which I have never used and probably never will unless I get a dry suit...:):)
Seems like all new divers have similar stories. Mine are no different. I finally got away from swimming down by exhaling strongly and using both dump valves on my BC all at the same time. I'm weighted now so that I never add air to my BC and control every thing by breathing.
I was very...
I have never climbed a ladder with fins on. In heavy seas on the last steps the Captain had one hand on my tank valve, the other hand on his ship, the strength to manage both and his DM in the water behind me...DM and Instructors last out...that's the way I would do it if it were my boat.
