I will be 60 in 17 days. This year in Feb I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. Drug free for 59 1/2 years. My doctor who is a very experienced diver said that's outstanding nowadays. I take a low dose BP med that is DAN's drug of choice. How did I know that my doc would pick that one...
Thanks Jimmy. That gives us more perspective. One of my plans or choices being considered is to buy 2; one for me and one for my son depending on the LDS price, etc...
I am seriously considering the Atom 2.0 with transmitter as a back up computer for my Pro Plus 2 on a liveaboard vacation next April. Would appreciate any first hand experience, recommendations or opinions. Thanks in advance...
Too many "what ifs" and poteetial problems for my liking and I don't own a boat. How about offering your boat services to a local dive instructor or divemaster at your LDS for small group outings? More organized and safety in numbers...
I agree, find a Doctor who is an experienced diver. DAN may be able to help but in addition to DAN I found an excellent diving doctor by talking to my local NAUI Course Director thru the LDS.
GMC Sierra 4x4, extended cab, short box with Ranch custom cap and those foam tank separators on ropes for 20 bucks each (extra plus)...that's the ticket :cool2:
Fins and boots definitely next. I agree with everyone here; try them first in a pool. I don't think the fancy ones are the ticket. I was sold split fins as a new diver but now I wish I'd have tried other styles first.
Next wet suit...who knows where those rentals have been :dontknow...
Check out the Oceanic GEO at oceanicworldwide.com. A full function dive computer that's also a very nice watch. I'll probably be getting one for my son as a backup computer for our next dive trip...a liveaboard out in the middle of nowhere...
My training taught to never dive alone and if you're going somewhere you've never been before contact local dive professionals.
Just after my OW cert and even now when I'm going to someplace new I want to be in the company of professional divers. Have them work with you on your nav skills.
My LDS insists that each diver test the tank and sign for it or it doesn't leave the shop. They'll help with instrument cal etc until they are sure you've done an adequate test.
We dive conservatively...dose=1.4 -> MOD=111 fsw.
Shoulder to shoulder at relatively the same depth. I like no more than 10 to 20 ft apart depending on vis. Face to face descending and ascending.
I'm still working on this with my son who just turned 16. He's the stronger swimmer; 2 laps in less than a minute...
Right, quarries are boring mud puddles. The one we use is 30 ft and there are wrecked boats, the kitchen sink, a toilet, etc...
A great place to learn to navigate and practice being in control.
Try calling Divers Alert Network (DAN) 1-800-446-2671 they'll talk with you and they can help you find a diving doctor near you. My son had a problem then we found out he was not doing it right. Now he's fine...
I have a QD for my Pro Plus II console and have had no problems. I like being able to take my computer back to the room and keep it with me when flying.
Now I'm looking at back up for a liveaboard trip. I may even go hoseless wrist computer but I want some redundancy out in the middle of...
One step at a time and take your time...remember the "stop, think then act" rule...you are not alone in your feelings as you can see from everyones posts here...me too but I love it too much to let predive anxiety get in the way...
