Is my Buddy really my Buddy?

Seems like the next thing you should do is get certified and geared up as a solo diver because that is what you are doing. I agree with everyone else here about detailed dive planning: plan your dive and dive your plan. As the least experienced, slower diver you should be leading the dive...

    First Boat Dive

Do you have a good Dive Plan Checklist saved on your computer? What will the water temp be?

is an 8/7 wetsuit inappropriate for warmer water?

My POV and experience...I enjoy myself a lot more in a 3ml or 5 ml if I'm doing multiple dives...I got my son a nice 3ml, new for $79. It has a lot to do with the amount of lead and comfort not to mention packing and checking in luggage...

What to do after Open Water PADI

PPB rocks without question! It was certainly worth my 50 bucks plus tip...my favorite part was balancing on my index finger with Fire Coral to my right and another living creature to my left (I didn't have gloves on)...DON'T TOUCH EITHER OF THEM and don't leave your spot...

What to do after Open Water PADI

This reply is mainly directed to Jim Lapenta and RJP. What, were you guys sitting at the same computer drinking too many beers...(i.e. replies within minutes of each other using the same icon :shakehead:) I forgot to mention the time my son and I were in the Canadian wilds and we canoed our...

    Travel BC vs standard BC

For sure bring your gear. I use a large (6000-7000 ci) dive gear travel bag; it fits everything...BC, 2 wetsuits, camera gear, lights, fins etc and for a liveaboard probably all the t shirts and swim suits you'll ever need and your toothpaste and toothbrush. This time I'm going to carry on...

What to do after Open Water PADI

My son and I both have 2 sets of certifications warm water and cold water. There are big differences. We are fast approaching 50 dives each and of those dives only 2 have been solo just my son and I and those were in the cold water quarry where we did all of our OW training. All other dives...

    pissed right now...grrr

Loratadine is an antihistamine and a very bad idea due to drying effects => can turn secretions into glue making it impossible in some cases for the body to be able to sweep them out = equalization impossible until the side effect wears off = nightmare.

How to tell if Mask is rated for Scuba Diving?

Hmm...not wanting to sound or seem impolite but if you can afford a dive trip to T&C I would buy my own reg and have it serviced as recommended by the mfr and pack it in my carry on luggage along with my computer that way you are in control unless, God forbid, something happens to your gear...I...

    Padi Knowledge Review Pages?

My son and I brought our books with us on the trips but did not take them on the boat; only completed copies, signed and dated. The instructors never questioned this or mentioned anything about it (2009 - 2010). They signed our log books and at the end I think we signed some kind of affadavit...

    Tips for Beating a Cold

I use 2 things: Every day I take 2 Kwai Garlic tablets in the morning with a glass of juice. Good for Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Upper Respiratory health. I like Kwai because the suggested use is 6 tablets daily...I always take the 2 but if I feel like I've been exposed to something or...

    Purge masks

I am in the process of replacing my mask skirt with one without a purge valve. The purge valve has become painful on my nose especially if I do more than 2 dives in a day. It is a prescription mask.

First time diver with question about weird physical sensations after cert dives!

Maintaining adequate or more than adequate hydration is a very important issue for divers. We alays bring Gatoraid at least or a good recovery drink plus Gatoraid at best. Fresh pineapple or oranges also really hit the spot especially during an SI.

TSA and Sea Pearls (weights on a plane)

I took soft weights with me one time in my checked baggage with the rest of my gear...cost me an extra $50 to get off the island. I use a weight integrated BC over a full 3 ml wetsuit...very comfortable and for multiple dives (3 to 5) on the same day I usually add a 3 ml beanie. I use whatever...

What to wear to the boat

I wear a polyester T shirt, swimsuit, racing Speedo (mid thigh length and skin tight) and Crocks. I carry my dive gear in a mesh bag that fits under my seat and take it from there. I get rid of the swimsuit and T shirt, put on sunblock all over then slip into my full 3 mm. Doesn't get much...

    TSA and carryon gear.

My son and I just got hoseless computers as back ups for a liveaboard trip in April. Previous trips we packed everything in our gear bags except computers and cameras. Now with the transmitters installed on our regs I'm uncomfortable about leaving them out of touch. In the past I've heard of...

    DAN Divers Alert Network

Definitely become a member!!! If you're travelling to dive get the premium insurance without question then you are covered to the hilt between DAN and your primary. I also use thier trip insurance...a bit pricey but so is a liveaboard vacation...it's part of the cost.
