    Gilboa vs Portage

The difference between Gilboa and Portage are: Gilboa has: Mike, you get to figure out if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Good to bad parking depending on when you get there. Deep diving More things to see Attack trout Those damn stairs back up to the parking area. Gravity sucks...

    HydroOptix Mega-4.5dd Rx Mask

Any word on when the Mega Zero masks will be out? Looking at the web site it still doesn't look like they are available.

    LDS Suicide

Interesting thought, I think the Ford Sea Lancer's come pretty close to that. I think they do training and certification, but I don't think they deal with equipment or a compressor. Paula can probably comment on that one. Another factor for having a fixed location and staff is to have...

In need of vast amounts of education

Excellent, I'm glad you have thought this thru, so many people don't. Even those with a lot more experience that should know better.

In need of vast amounts of education

It sounds like you dove and left the boat untended. I've seen people do it and get away with it, but there are a few cases where they didn't. It really is a VERY good idea to bring someone along who knows how to run the boat and use the radio. Here are a couple of possible things that could...

    What is your best anti-fog?

My wife has the 3D Hydro Optix mask and it came with defogger which I thought was strange since they advertise that the materials its made with won't fog. Sure enough, it didn't fog at all and didn't need to clean the mask at all.

    New BC'S, why no whistle?

I have one as well, never been used. Never had the guts to try it. The only socially acceptable place to make that kind of noise is at a football game, and you would probably look funny wearing scuba gear to a football game. If you want another less expensive device, go get a lifeguard...

    cleaning bcd

On my Zeagle's I've unscrewed the bottom dumps and use that to add cleaner and water. Its a whole lot easier than trying to get water to go down the inflator hose in my experience. The thing to be careful is in putting them back on to make sure they line up correctly and don't cross thread...

    Whitestar Quarry - May 19 - 21st

15 minutes from someplace to dive, even if its just a quary must have been nice. I just figured out what it costs me to go diving at Whitestar with gas at $2.70 a gallon. Talk about sticker shock. Round trip with I-280 closed is about 140 miles, and I'm closer than most of my dive buddies...

    Whitestar Quarry - May 19 - 21st

It broke 50 this weekend at depth :) At least that seemed to be the average of everyone I talked with.

air integrated worth 2x the price

I started with a Cobra, and am still using it, for me I really do prefer digital displays, particularly as my eyes get more far sighted. My watches are digital for the same reason. As to AI, with a console on the end of a hose, the Cobra and most of those devices tend to be very reliable. I...

    Zeagle Ranger

This may be considered a mortal sin, but you can order it specifying the color of the sections. In my case it makes picking me out by students and dive buddies. There is a danger though, you should choose your colors carefully, my Maze and Blue may be potentially fatal when diving in Ohio...

    Zeagle Ranger

I started with the Concept II, absolutely love it, and use it for teaching in the pool and travel. For cold water diving I bought the Ranger LTD simply because it had a lot more capabilities including D-Rings, very adjustable, modular, more pocket space and was better at holding more weight...

    Whitestar Quarry - May 19 - 21st

I was thinking of going diving at Whitestar Sunday, and it would be neat to finally meet a few of the personalities on this board, except for two small problems. 1. My wife is taking my Avalanche this weekend because she can't fit four people in her 2003 T-Bird. You ever try to put dive gear...

Well, I guess I'll be joining the GLWC

You can often find used gear that's serviceable at a pretty good price. Get friendly with DMs and Instructors about your size, they seem to get new gear fairly often and you can sometimes pick up their old stuff pretty cheap.

    Suunto Dive Manager Software

I used to download my logs, and half the time it was like tuning in an old TV with rabbit ears. You hold it kind of like this, but move a little that way, there you go got it, now hold still while it downloads. Note I said I used to download them. I stopped probably a hundred or so dives...

    Drysuit weight approximation formula

For me the formula doesn't even come close, with a shell and lightweight unders, I should be 33 lbs with the formula, I come in at 16 lbs when diving. Okay, I'm fat I admit it, I also sink in fresh water. The pool is a nice theory, but reality is the water is too warm to find out what...

    HydroOptix ZERO-d masks

Did the magnifier work, granted loosing them and the curved surface are big issues. The next big question is which power of magnifier.

    Force Fins ...Honest Feedback

While in the pool today someone had a set of Force fins and let me try them. They had far greater propulsion than anything I have ever put on. But they felt really wierd, I can't explain why, they just didn't feel right. The size was just a tad bit small which may be part of it, but it wasn't...

    HydroOptix ZERO-d masks

My wife tried out the 4.5D that I got her at DEMA, she absolutely loves it, which makes me feel better since I bought it on a hunch that it would work. The price was very nice. There is only one problem, she can't read her dive computer. It could be a combination of things, first is needing...
