    storing tanks for winter..

When I'm finished diving for the year, (usually November), I get them VIP'd and all my gear serviced as appropriate. That way when the spring rolls around and the shop is tied up doing everyone else's stuff I'm all set. If it takes them a week or two to get around to it in November, its no big...

    It's Torture, I tell ya...

If you happen to be going on one of the night dives to watch Mantas (highly recommended) in Hawaii, wear the extra suit. You will need it, you get cold just kneeling there on the bottom. Even me, who is part polar bear got cold, of course a wet suit might have helped. Oh, and since this...

moving to ny in a few months

I'm sure there must be a good reason to leave Hawaii and go to NYC, granted I can't think of any right off hand. :) I do know that you got the wrong forum. You want the Wreck Valley forum for NY. This forum is generally about diving in the great lakes.

    Monroe Diving Center

That was Scuba Centers in Lincoln Park. I don't know about the owner dying, and the shop says they still have a contract. Not sure about that, or if its even enforceable. But with all the construction, the quary filling and everything else it wasn't a great place to dive. It might be...

    Lake Huron Charter July 2nd

The pictures looked like there was quite a bit of room, but its always a bit hard to tell. Looks like its a pretty easy boat to get on and off of as well. How was the speed. I've been on other boats that were roomy, but were so slow you thought you were going to die of old age getting there...

    Lake Huron Charter July 2nd

Looking at the pictures the boat appears to have more room than the other boats in the area that I have gone diving with. Any thoughts or comments?

    Monroe Diving Center

I finally stopped on the way back from White Star and noticed that they have hours like 3-8 or something like that M-F and 12-5 on Saturday. Unfortunately it was Sunday and I haven't had a reason to go back down there. I did do a dive in the quary a couple of years ago and it was very poor...

    Monroe Diving Center

I found two addresses for them. 1245 S. Monroe Street 5955 W. Dunbar Rd. Monroe 48161 I tried to call them, but there was no answer or voice mail. So it doesn't sound too promising.

    Shell drysuit without undergarments?

The other reason to wear something between your suit and your skin is to keep you from sweating as much. Bare skin against the material tends to make me sweat, wearing a thin polartec type material works well for me.

    Gilboa on 6/25

There are a few of us looking to dive Sunday, but we will probably go to Whitestar. You are welcome to tag along if you want.

    Monroe Diving Center

I've been hearing a few rumors that a dive shop opened up on the quary in Monroe, MI. A search of the Internet turned up "Monroe Diving Center" being very close to that quary. However apparently the shop itself doesn't have any presense on the web. Just currious if anyone knew anything...

New to diving: Any good spots to dive within 2 hours of Detroit Metro Airport

I'm not sure why, but part of my message got chopped off. Here's the rest I hope. The Montana wasn't bad, its an old wooden ship that still has its boiler. The ones you really want to see are the Grecian and the E.B. Allen, they both are at about 95 feet. The Grecian is a steel ship that...

New to diving: Any good spots to dive within 2 hours of Detroit Metro Airport

Thanks, I thought it was the Regina, but I couldn't remember. It didn't make my log book, so I couldn't be sure. Haven't had a chance to the Mary Alice either. As to diving in Alpena, RJ has two boats, a cabin cruiser which is faster but at most probably a six pack. The other boat is much...

    Gilboa vs Portage

The portable compressor would do most dive shops proud. I'm not sure its Nitrox quality clean air, word has he was working up to doing Nitrox fills. Personally if I was him I wouldn't bother, you have to work hard to need Nitrox at Whitestar. Yes I know it can be done, but you would have to...

Michigan Divers - Want a SCUBA license plate?

Tempting. I didn't go for the U of M one, but I might go for a scuba one if it was done halfway decent.

New to diving: Any good spots to dive within 2 hours of Detroit Metro Airport

I've dove a few times out of Lexington, most of the dives unfortunately are to freightors that were overturned in a big storm in the early 1900's. So there isn't much to see. There is a small wreck called the Sport that's near shore (means its shallow 30', not shore dive range). There is...

    Gilboa vs Portage

I don't really mind the stairs that much normally. There are a few times however: The wood bending under the weight of all that gear is a bit scarey at times. Okay, before one of my 'buddies' chimes in they bend a bit without all the gear too. I do worry about slipping on the stairs and the...

    Father's Day diving

Anyone diving at Whitestar on Sunday, Father's Day. My wife and daughter are going somewhere, and I figure I'll do something I want to do.
