BC HOSE RIPS OFF---No Positive Buoyancy

John, I would suggest you relax a bit. Young people have a habit of doing things that 20 years later will make them shudder and wonder how they survived it. Lord knows, I certainly do. The lucky ones at least get to that point. The trick is to learn from your exprience so you get to the point...

    HydroOptix ZERO-d masks

I was hoping it was going to be the curved lens that they showed at DEMA. Yes, I know the web site said it wasn't practical to do except in much more expensive full face and military applications. Still one can have hopes that someone could figure out a less expensive manufacturing process...

    HydroOptix ZERO-d masks

I just saw a blurb about HyrdoOptix MEGA ZERO-d mask in Dive Training. The mask is a curved mask with really wide field of vision (160 degrees) that is supposed to not need contacts. I saw a prototype at DEMA and was impressed. I was wondering if anyone had actually seen one of these new masks...

    operators/hotels in the keys

I usually fly into Ft. Lauderdale, flights are often cheaper and it is quite a bit smaller and not as hectic as Miami. Downside is that its 20 miles further north. In Key Largo, the after dive entertainment is going to all the scuba stores in the area.

New diver to Keys - have questions!

If you aren't comfortable with navigation do what my wife likes to do. We hang out within a short distance from the boat and look at stuff very slowly. In her case she doesn't like to do long swims. In your case Navigation is very easy. We actually tend to see a lot more too and our air...

Meet and Greet Time Again (Gilboa April 28-30, 2006)

Every year, I look to try and make this, I'd really like to meet some of the characters on this board. This year's excuse, I'm flying in from San Diego on Friday, and out to Key Largo on Sunday. Unfortunately I'm not taking my dive gear to San Diego, but I certainly considered it. I am taking...

Anyone going to Whitestar or Gilboa Sunday 4/9?

I tried all my usual dive buddies, and no one seemed interested or was preoccupied. Anyone going to Whitestar or Gilboa tomorrow?

Anyone diving Whitestar or Gilboa on Sunday 4/9?

I've made the rounds of my dive buddies, and can't find anyone willing to get wet yet. Anyone going to Whitestar, or even Gilboa? I have some new equipment I haven't had a chance to play with yet, and I'm getting anxious. Might have to resort to strapping on the pony bottle and do a single...

    Newbie question re: Gilboa

When I did mine OW the water was about 55 or so, that wasn't the problem. It was heat exhaustion wearing the wet suit out of the water. The water actually felt pretty good. Don't worry about it, wear the suit, gloves and hood and you will do fine.

Drysuit Selection Help and Boot Size

I saw a suggestion on this forum that you size your boots with the thermal socks you will use in the coldest water. Then always dive with those socks regardless of the temperature. That way the size is always right. Granted in warm water they could get a bit smelly, but you can dump heat by...

    Double Tank Strap B/C

Zeagle's don't have a hard back, and that's why they have two straps. Or at least that's what I have been told and it sounds about right. Dealing with how the cylinder sits on a boat with two straps can be a bit of a chore. On most boats that have a tube that the cylinder sits in...

    Dry hood not so dry

So how do you prevent the squeeze in the dry hood. The only way I can think of relieving any of the preasure would be by clearing your ears, and I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way. With the inner neck seal still in place the dry suit and the hood are pretty separate, short of putting...

    Key West dive operators

The diving was good in a few spots last year in May, but not good in others. But overall not really impressive, for us the biggest problem was visibility. Apparently the gulf stream had moved to an unusual spot and was causing bad vis. We had to head a long way out to get some decent dives...

    Dry hood not so dry

I got a dry hood put on my dry suit. So far I like it, but I've noticed I get some water into it. I suspect that's probably going to happen short of going to a full face mask. The other possibility is that the hood is too big. It fits just about perfect for my head, but the latex is not...

    Drysuits...DUI or Diving Concepts?

Most of us at the shop have Diving Concepts because that's what the shop sells. One of our guys has a DUI that he's had for a few years now. To be honest with you I don't think you will go wrong with either one. Its more a question of which options you want to go with. Since each has a few...

Spiegel and Duane Alternate Air Source

Looking through the various dive opps I noticed something interesting. Only Ocean Divers even mentions an Alternate Air Source (although I suspect they don't mean a pony bottle) when diving the Spiegel and Duane. Thoughts on the subject, it sounds like its a 80 to 100+ foot dive. Since I'm...

    Ankle weights

I often use ankle weights, but rarely on my ankles. They hold down tarps, they keep things from blowing away, I can add two pounds to my BC pockets. Actually, I have 1 and 1.5 pound weights that I used to use. One day I forgot to put them on and noticed my trim was better. I've left them...

Drysuit Pockets - Necessary or Not??

It all depends on what you have and how you are diving. I don't have them on my suit, but then I dive with a BC that has a couple of good size pockets. My sheers and knife are on my BC, where they are convienent and secure. One of the guys got them on his suit, he cut them off after just a...

    warmest wet gloves

For years I've gone by, if I can keep my hands and feet warm, the rest of me is usually okay. Reading through this thread I just realized, that in many (not all) cases I was probably keeping my body plenty warm, and that meant that my hands and feet didn't get cold. The times I wasn't keeping...
