If you've been around 15 years and haven't found a good DM or DM program you aren't looking. There are plenty of good DMs with good leadership skills running around and some have no interest whatsoever in being an instructor. Your title says you are an instructor. Have you not certified a DM...
Its really not that unreasonable. I paid an independent instructor less than that (per person) for my wife and I to do AOW. I didn't stiff him either - that was his asking price. I bet he made more than whatever a dive shop would have paid him. The course was held over a weekend at a public...
No matter what caused it, having a student leave so dissapointed from what should be a great experience is unfortunate. When I was looking to do my DM training, I stopped in at Splash and didn't get the best impression from Janet. That is not to say that there aren't good instructors there -...
A 5' is too short to fit me comfortably. When it came time to kit my wife she tried 5' and went with 7'. I figure if she can manage stowing the extra anyone can.
You might be warmer on the surface in the fusion suit and sweating more. Pre-dive I tend to have a lot of air in my suit and that helps keep me from overheating a little bit. When I jump in, that humid air mostly vents out. In the fusion, this probably doesn't haven so much.
Inspect the seals. Sometimes you can see where it is failing. I've had two leaks in my drysuit both causing just dampness on the outside of the undergarment so it is certainly possible. If you are really worried about it, the next time you gear up you could inflate yourself like a balloon and...
Oh come on. They are most likely overwhelmed with this situation and are just an unhappy about it (or more likely more) than you are.
I suspect they are going to have enough to deal with just processing the returns without having to make special accomodations. Even if there were 180 blow...
It depends, and if you aren't sure what to expect from a particular DM in a particular situation, you should ask.
In a class, a DM might take a pretty active hands on role. As a general guide, a DM might be there to answer questions and be helpful but not in charge of your dive. As a personal...
I went to target and bought a $20 sport watch. Works fine. The cheap watch will last longer if you choose your screen before you start the dive and don't push buttons at depth.
I think the point of the post has been missed. Take your example, say I pay a premium in the charter cost so that I can ride on a boat like yours with an extra engine to make sure I get home in a timely fashion. Say that is an added value that I am willing to pay for. Thus, you, the boat...
Those rental regs are used and abused and are constantly in chlorine. Not all of them are that great for a cold quarry dive either. Especially if you went down below the thermoclines where it is colder than they are typically used for an OW class.
As to the muck, I'm guessing they probably...
Most dive shops will let you jump in the pool anytime they have it rented for a class for a small fee. Often, they'll include the use of a tank and weights with the small fee.

I don't see it as a big deal. On paper, its a cool feature. In practice, its really not that useful.
