Why all the features? I want a simple piece of equipment.

Suunto is probably the closest, but you cite contradicting requirements that will prevent you from finding one computer that meets all your requirements. For example, you want a large display but a wristwatch size computer. These are simply opposites. The wristwatch size computers are just...

    AOW to Pro Questions

Have you received an ok from a physician to do this? That's going to be required to start any class. I would think that with a 70% rating, it would be hard to find a physician that will say you are fine to do this. At least for PADI, in addition to the standard waiver you have to get a...

Nitrox Course I am open water certified by padi

I'm not sure why a Nitrox course should cost $250. I'd be looking for a better price. Some courses include dives, some do not. There really is no difference diving Nitrox, you are more learning about risks and dive planning in the course. So, see if you can find a place that does not...

    Buy or Rent tanks?

If you do a lot of local diving, having your own tanks is nice. They are there when you are ready to go and it makes getting out to dive a little more convenient and a little cheaper (only fills no rentals). If you like diving steel tanks and they aren't available to rent, that's a major plus...

Oceanic Pro Plus 2 dive computer

How many threads do you need about this? I think the ridiculous nature of your expectations were pretty clear in the thread in the Oceanic forum.

    Removing Perm ink on tanks

I posted a similar question not too long ago. Rubbing alcohol was suggested. I haven't had a chance to try it yet. If they were mine, there would be a good chance the LDS would be solving this problem.

    ebay dilemma

Push it if you want but it is only worth the time if the principal bothers you enough. Other than a few shiny bits on the cover it's an identical reg.

Oceanic Pro Plus 2 computer. Oceanic wants to drop the ball

If a 100 psi error had cost you your life, not only are you irrational for expecting warranty service 6 yrs beyond the warranty period, but your looking for a darwin award for running your tank down that far. Although, that might be the sort of thing to expect from a diver living in an...

Oceanic Pro Plus 2 computer. Oceanic wants to drop the ball

Rofl, you've got a 7 yr old computer that was repaired 6 yrs ago and is now out of calibration and you think that its the manufacturers problem and they should fix it for free? Yeah sure, ok. Good luck with that. This is not an Oceanic issue. This is an irrational customer issue.

Oceanic Air Integrated transmitter... extension hose available?

I think youd be more likely to whack it on things if it was dangling. You could do it with a 6inch hose and an adaptor but I think it's more secure right on the first stage. Just don't throw your reg around and it'll be fine.

How serious a screw-up was this?

I've had more tanks shut off by buddies supposedly checking my air in a buddy check. My policy now is that no one touches my tank after I have verified it is on and I put it on. If you want to do that part of a buddy check with me it mist be done before I gear up and I can see you do it.

Inflater hose came off... what could happen?

Also, don't be upset about him using a zip tie. There is a fair chance that's what the factory used too. There are quite a few zip ties on scuba gear.

Inflater hose came off... what could happen?

I know you were there and I wasn't, but I wouldn't be so quick to sandbag the instructor for attempting a repair. That's a pretty standard and acceptable response IMHO. He didn't tell you to suck it up and dive broken gear. He tried to fix it and when his fix didn't work found other gear. But...

    Drysuit Diving Buddy

A drysuit can be difficult at first. Your course should set you on the right path. Once you get the hang of it, they are the best. Nothing like being comfortable in all water temps and at the end of the dive, just taking off the top, tying the sleeves and relaxing warm and dry. Have fun!

    Snorkel Use

It's a safety issue that's why. You will DIE if you have to surface swim over kelp without a snorkel.

Putting bungee on the backup reg

I did the shock cord in the zip tie thing for a while. The reg tended to shift around and end up hanging weird. I found that it stays put better with the rubberized commercial necklaces so I use that now. As an aside the reg also pops out of those so if you are playing victim in a rescue class...

Inflater hose came off... what could happen?

In your own gear or well maintained gear it probably won't happen. It happens to rental gear mostly because people lift or drag the bcd around with full weight pockets by he corrugated hose. Unfortunately, it has to fail on someone for the shop to know it's broke to fix it. Now, had this...

Reasonable price for X7 HP100, 3 years old, current viz

I'd guess $200-250. But it also depends on how bad the seller wants to sell and the local market. Local markets influence the price a lot due to the difficulty in shipping heavy tanks. I've purchased one out of hydro as low as $100 and got it in diving condition for about $50. On the other hand...

I'll get some rubbing alcohol and give it a try.

    Snorkel Use

Yours is invalid with respect to a typical snorkel. If I'm ever doing a dive where there is a good possibility of being left in the ocean with dry tanks in such conditions it is simply too tiring to survive without a snorkel I'll reconsider. If it takes such an outlier to establish the...
