    "Must" Dives?

Personally, I avoid the C-53 wreck like the plague. Waste of time and breathing gas when there are better things to do. There have been a few times we've done it to a atisfy someone else on the boat and I found some cool critters to look at, but It was the lowlight of the trip. Like Gordon, I...

To car or not tonly car....that is the question. Tis it better to rent or taxi?

We always rent a car, but it's really a splurge for the sake of convenience. My wife doesn't dive anymore and it gives her more freedom while I'm out diving. If we made a strictly economic decision, we would probably use taxis and rent a car for a day or two.

    Aldora Experience....wow!

It is rare to mix nitrox and air divers on an Aldora boat. I have seen it, but only a few times. We are normally (probably 90+% of the time) on a boat with all nitrox divers. BTW, I have found that there is a big benefit to using nitrox with the 120s and 100s. Even on a multi-level dive (which...

    Dinner options near Casa Mexicana

Well, I hate to give you one of those "it all depends" answers, but to some degree it depends on your definition of "walking distance." There are lots of options regardless of your definition, but more limited if you are really talking about stumbling distance. Casa Mexicana is right on Melgar...

    What's your best find lately?

OK, so I'm tired of hearing about the election, I need some distraction, and I do have trip coming up in a few months, so how about this. Somebody recently posted his best find of his trip, video of juvenile Smooth Trunkfish. What's your best find lately? Could be a fish or critter, new...

    Best Find this Trip

bradmond is right. It is a smooth trunkfish. Sometimes I think the names are backwards. Anyway, I love those things. Thanks for posting.

    Looking for a boat/OP

Does not sound like Aldora, although they have seven smaller boats and one bigger boat. The bigger boat, Falicity, is 40 ft. You could call Villa Aldora a small hotel, but there is no restaurant or bar.

    Batfish at C53

I was thinking the same thing. Anyone know if batfish tend to stay in the same area?

No Morning Dive After Flight the Day Before with ProDive Mexico?!?

So, the OP appears to have had a chip on his shoulder, but if you go back to the transcript, ProDive said its normal policy was for people to dive in the afternoon the first day. Yes, they offered to try to get the OP on a morning dive and yes, the OP did not cooperate. I still don't know of...

No Morning Dive After Flight the Day Before with ProDive Mexico?!?

Well, there are two sides to this story, but I still don't understand why a dive operator cannot make arrangements for a morning dive the day after arrival. Others manage it safely and evaluate the experience, skills, and fitness of divers. This is the first time I have ever heard of making a...

    Aldora Tanks

Looking at the specs chart Gdog posted, I may have been wrong in saying that the steel 100s carry a lot more gas. I have never used an aluminum 100. I had assumed an operating pressure of 3000 psi, like the standard AL 80. It appears that the AL 100s have an operating pressure of 3300 psi, so...

    Aldora Tanks

Aldora's tanks are high-pressure steel tanks, 3500 psi operating pressure, regularly filled between 3300 and 3500 psi. Those HP steel 100s pack significantly more gas than an aluminum 100. Standard operating procedure at Aldora is to give men 120s and women 100s. Adjustments can be made after...

    Aldora Tanks

I've only seen steel. We always talk about the 120s, but they also offer 100s and 80s. The 120s are tall and pretty heavy, but the 100s are pretty manageable, even for smaller folks. The 80s are small and pretty light. I can only get away with those shore diving in 12 fsw in front of the Villa.

Help Deciding On Dives - Cancun Or Cozumel?

I think I'm with mmmbellows on the day trip to Cozumel. I did it once, shortly after I got certified. I've been to Cozumel many times since then. Haven't been back to Cancun in years. But, if you are staying in Cancun and only have a day to got to Coz, you might be better off to dive around...
