Safety sausages and other essential safety gear

I carry my DAN SMB which comes with a whistle, signal mirror, and apparently now a battery powered light (mine uses a glow stick) https://www.scubatoys.com/store/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=Dan_Signal_Tube Also recently my dive buddies and I have been diving a Nautilus lifeline. It is a submersible...

Taking GPS coordinates of a site... captain's permission?

A quick Google search shows that by going through your customers stuff, and throwing away his GPS is illegal. Which makes sense, and I have no idea where you think you are entitled to do that. The tort is the "Tresspass to Chattels" if you want to look it up. You then had your cop buddy push...

    Alert horns and sirens??

The underwater only ones are totally useless, and I cringe every time I see one. All they do is annoy the people around you. The surface ones have some benefit, but if the wind is blowing, and the boats motors are running the distance is going to be way more limited than you would hope.

Attaching an SMB to a backplate, has anyone used one of those mesh bags?

Hi all, I have not been happy with trying to find an easy to use attachment point for my smb to my backplate. I want something that will really stop it from flopping around. I found these at the bottom of the page, and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them, good or bad...

    Leak-proof masks

It could be as simple as the skirt has become stiff. the clear silicone masks I have owned tended to do that after a few years. Also, make sure the skirt is still attached to the frame, If it is a frameless mask that is known to happen sometimes.

recommendations on how to keep octo from dangling with a zeagle zena?

For the Octo I use this: Amazon.com: Kraton Rubber Octopus (Octo) Holder: Sports & Outdoors strangely enough I have been using the same one for the last 200 or so dives, and it has held up phenominally. The spg, I used to use something like this:Amazon.com: Scuba Diving Snorkeling BC Hose...

Where do you put your console on a Pearl i3?

Small world :), The trick is, when you need to see the console, just unclip it and bring it into your reading view. However, other options are to clip it in the same fashion to the other d-rings on your shoulders. With a bolt snap you can attach it to any d-ring.

Where do you put your console on a Pearl i3?

On your left waist should be some kind of attachment point. Looking at the image, there is a d-ring just below the knife mount, and another one below that. I would attach it to one of those. Use a bolt snap and zip tie it to your console, then clip the console to the d-ring. P.S. Welcome to...

What's your dive accessory pet peeve?

I have to go with underwater noise makers. I was on a charter this weekend, and all you heard for an hour was the sound of quackers. It just spoils the dive for everyone.

    Buoyancy problems !!

It sounds like your weighting is very off. I would do a real and proper weight check. remember your backplate also adds about 6lbs over a traditional BC, so you could very well be over weight now. Plus the lack of neoprene, reduces the buoyancy of the bc even more. So do a weight check!

    Tips for managing Dive Flags?

Those spools are a giant PITA, I have one on mine because they are cheap, but when I boat dive we tend to use a reel. I have found my preference in this kind: Amazon.com: Dive Rite Primary Wreck Reel 250Ft #36 Line: Sports & Outdoors the clutch kind are nice too until the clutch wears, then...

Taking advanced open water. Need Primary Light. Thoughts on Hollis 3x3 led Torch?

https://www.diverightinscuba.com/catalog/1000-lumen-dive-light-p-3380.html the DRIS 1000 is amazing, and for the price nothing compares. I plan to get a second as a backup for a trip in October.

SCUBAPRO X-TEK FORM SYSTEM or Holllis 100 WHIHC SHOULD I GET

On the ripcord, In my experience it is the best weight integrated system out there. I have seen way more failures of the snap in kind. After some practice re-stringing the ripcord can be done in a few minutes, which is way slower than the clip in kind, but it does seem to hold the weight more...

SCUBAPRO X-TEK FORM SYSTEM or Holllis 100 WHIHC SHOULD I GET

I have no experience with either of those BC's, but looking at the images, and descriptions I would go with the Hollis. It looks like it would preform better out of the two. I ran for years a Zeagle Ranger and loved it, but now I run a BP/W (like a Hollis Solo with the S wing) Hollis Gear...

Are you all just technical? What is technical?

Hmm a plastic backplate? You mean one of those Kydex ones? I can see that being more likely to have the face plant issue than a proper al, or steel backplate, as they don't have the weight needed. However, I imagine it is similar to how my ranger was, and my ranger needed a few lbs to be moved...

Are you all just technical? What is technical?

I switched last September because I dropped a ton of weight, and needed something I could adjust. Since then I have lost another 30 lbs, and the ability to customize the fit alone was worth the change. However diving the BP for a while now I have to say best decision ever. It doesn't shift...

Diving with a watch. How to keep track of times?

Why can't you write down your numbers for dive one during that 35 minute SI? If you are hanging out in the water during the SI, then a slate or wetnotes would probably be very handy.

CPR in water when close to shore / boat what to do first?

I did Padi rescue a number of years ago, but I seem to remember being instructed to just do rescue breaths until you get back to boat/shore. and that compressions are ineffective in the water.
