Old Valve with left hand thread handle, why?

According to my 2005 Aqua Lung valve service manual the left hand threaded bonnet nuts began in 1986 along with a change from using just a teflon stem seal to the use of the teflon stem seal and an O ring and back up ring and also involved a design change to the stem and bonnet nut to...

When did the first 3/4” thread come out on 72’s?

This is the tank. The neck measures 1.660 Seems plans to go to 3/4” may have begun in 58 or earlier. USD probably waited until stock of 1/2” valves were used up.

LDS Won't + 10% Fill Plus Rated Tank?

There is no such thing as a plus test. The hydro test is performed as it normally is. The plus is determined by simple arithmetic using the results of the hydro test and the REE of the tank,. If the tank REE is not stamped on the tank by the manufacturer the hydro shop must have documentation...

LDS Won't + 10% Fill Plus Rated Tank?

The + sign was instituted during WW ll to be able to ship more gas in fewer tanks to save steel for the war effort. once the war was over no one cared about the plus but is was in the regulations. Scuba divers are the only tank users who care about the plus sign. Commercial gas is sold by the...

    Filling and Humidity

High humidity does increase fill time and more requires frequent drains but here in south Louisiana I would never be able to run my compressor 11 months of the year if I only fill below 75%

What Exactly Did I Just Get? 1950s twinset

Here is a pallet of aviation O2 cylinders recently removed from scrapped Navy Lockheed SP 2-H antisubmarine patrol aircraft. I have many hours as a crewman on these aircraft. Notice they are wire wrapped, the wire was removed when used for diving. Dr. Sam hit the nail on the head.

The end of the jaws are contoured and polished to the contour of the clips. A cut down nut is used to lock the adjustment in place once it has been determined. That way every clip is compressed exactly the same.

    Double 30s???

New tanks may be a problem, they have a larger diameter than the old AL30's.. I ran into this issue several years ago when I was fabricating triple manifolds for AL 30s using parts from a USD double manifold and a USD single J valve and the old AL30's. The larger diameter of the new AL30's...

    J Valve

There is no inherent reason a properly serviced and operating J valve will leak down, I have J valve tanks that keep pressure indefinitely. Besides air flows from the shutoff to the J valve and then to the regulator, if the tank valve is closed the J section is not pressured.
