That’s par for the course (in my experience) with places that fill mostly aluminum tanks. 20 minutes to fill and go? That’s about what you’re going to end up with after a hot fill.

I bet the 2.5 would suck for that kind of driving. What surprised me is that they didn’t put a turbo in these until recently (replaced the 3.6 engine options). To me...a turbo boxer (ex. WRX or WRX STI engine) with a six speed manual would make for a fun wagon. Ex. Old Volvo V70R.

I’m in the same camp. I’d prefer to fart around “shallow” then go deeper just for the hell of it. Now if there’s a point to it (ex. Wreck dives or 100’+ down collecting on the Meg ledges)...sure.

If I’’m being honest...the odds are extremely low that I’ll hang onto it long enough for that to be a concern. I don’t see it failing inside of 100,000 miles or so, so I should be fine. If it does fail...I would just sort a junkyard replacement instead of repairing the original transmission.
