i've been trying to find that out too. unfortunately, it seems that all depends on the tsa guy (or his mexican equivalent). my wife and i are going to cancun in may and i decided against our rechargeables. just because of that.
not if the batteries contain lithium.

there was an article in one of your two largest german dive magazines (don't know if it was "tauchen" or "unterwasser") where they tried to take lights onto planes after new rules went into effect this year. they showed...
for recreational use i think lights should be easily transportable on planes. in today's world, it seems a hit or miss whether you can take your light or not. i would prefer an interchangeable use of regular batteries and rechargeable packs.
...but tim....the question of the op was regarding the opinion of hartenberger lights in particular.
your comment on led vs. hid was valuable, however everything after that was a general sales pitch for your products. which i don't think is quite ok either.
my wife and i each have a nano compact. both with halogen as well as the optional led head. the halogen is great when you dive reefs etc. for night dives, caverns and such, the led comes handy (also with a longer run time).

my cousin (who lives in europe) got certified in thailand but did not get his c-card. he asked me as just a "low-life padi americas dm" to help him. I sent an email to padi asia and they could not have been more helpful. very professional. got this problem resolved within a few weeks.
