I read with some interest the thread about the pros and cons turning off a valve in a freeflow. I did not ready all 7 pages. But I had this thought that no one ever addressed in my class and I did not think about until now - 4 years after certification. Since the first tread got so lengthy I...
A fun You Tube video was posted a few posts below about diving under an oil rig. While I liked what I saw and I have fished under a few in a boat myself, I have to ask this:
I found myself wounding is there any danger of something falling off the rig and taking out a diver? Afterall these...
I went diving last year in early late Sept/Oct in Key Largo. Great time, water temps were perfect.
However the winds were up for some of the week. To the point dive ops were canceling trips. I had some other non-diving things to do so it was fine with me.
A local diver told me the winds...
With airlines going out of control about baggage I am curious how folks are dealing with the latest round of baggage restrictions/charges.
Have we reached the point that it would be a better idea to take a regulator and computer and rent everything else on location?
Is this all too new to...
I love the Keys and they are my cheep quick dive trip. HOWEVER I don't find much in the way of beaches in the keys so your wife may not like it very well.
The last good beach is on an island south of Miami. Will have to look at a map if you are interested.
On my last trip I even visited...
Let me update my post. I am well past my OW. I completed Rescue course last year. I figure to take another class this summer.
I have a 3 mil suit, for warm water diving, and I live in the mid-atlantic region.
The reason this question came up: During one of my classes I dove in a t-shirt...
Just picked up my first wetsuit as I start to purchase my own gear.
This brought a question to mind: Since I only have one and this one has a little color in it, will wearing it in a pool give me any problems, fade the colors, etc.
I remember the rental wetsuits we used during dive...
Baltimore Sun is reporting a new diver died in Key Largo on Sunday 12-30.

Have a trip to Florida in a few weeks. I have non-diving stuff to do for some of the trip. But I want to either head to key Largo OR if it is the right time of the year maybe the west coast if Manatees are possible.
I have done little reserach on the Manatees, but have the impression it is...
You may be abe to rent from a local dive shop before your trip. I do this with mine in Md.
The place I dove In St. Thomas appeared to just have gauges. However I will say I did not ask since I had the rental computer.
This is not a travel question so I am going to post here.
Over the past 6 months or so I have seen a Discovery Channel segment, more than once, on the Irukandji jellyfish in Australia. Seems this tiny jelly can kill you and if not, you would wish you were dead while its toxin works on your...
From a personal experience in Key Largo:
Since you are going to Key Largo ask about snorklers. I dove two days with Captn Slate (might be listed as Atlantis Dive Center) first dive location on the left after you join the island from the mainland. On the first day we had a good dive. The next...
To Lucky's diver,
Could you explain what is different and esp. "painfull" about clearing, removing, etc. I would like to know more about this subject?
Also when folks say these are not cheep, what price range do these things start?
I completely understand the orginial poster. Quarrys are not a place I like to dive. I did my training at Bainbridge, Pa and have not been back since. On one dive my instructor told me to follow and I lost him in 15 seconds -- the water was that murky. My wife and I agree if this was all diving...
I really wish you would name the operation. That is the only way I have to know who to dive with, who avoid or more properly who to question heavily about policies.
Just like Trip Advisor does with resorts and hotels it helps me make informed decisions! Nothing wrong with naming an operation.
How did I get brought up in this discussion? I haven't posted on the board in a long time. I even did a serach of my own topics and did not see anything revelant.
What brought up the references to me?

Thanks for the replies. I very much intend to practice this the next time I am in the pool. And yes I am disppointed my instructor did not teach this. I even got a sick feel in my stomach when my co-worker told me she did. The sick feeling was what would I do if this happened to me underwater...
