    Sandflies

I think we're at odds with our definitions of sand flies - any blood-sucking dipteran can cause dengue. Do you have the scientific name for sand flies, or a picture? edit: Just wiki'd it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandfly do you mean horse flies?

    Dive Resort Closest to Manila

I agree with daveconc, but as Antartic diver pointed out, the weather might be really crappy and Portulana might not be accessible. Best to call ahead to see. They cater well to lone divers. As for Anilao, if you're traveling by yourself, it'll be pretty expensive diving with just you and a...

Coron vs Subic vs Puerto Galera?

For a long weekend only?...I'd choose Subic. I tried doing Coron over a weekend and was kinda bummed I didn't stay longer. The next time I went to Coron, I spent 8 days which was awesome. Even then, I could have stayed longer and experienced even more. Then again, the weather is being pretty...

    Sandflies

I've never paid attention to the type of flies....but there are flies all over and I would suspect sand flies are always an inherent risk when traveling around [-]the PI[/-] South East Asia. I do know sand flies can be carriers of dengue, and if there is a correlation between sand fly...

    Hello from Coron, Busuanga Philippines

Welcome Gunter. Just wanted to let everyone viewing this thread that Gunter pioneered the diving in Coron and is one of the reasons we get to enjoy these WWII wrecks today (as well as Gunter's Catheral). Thanks for that, Gunter. Coron is a beautiful place.

    Six weeks, where to go?

for six weeks, you have lots to choose from. I would try hit up Sogod Bay (potential for whalesharks in Nov), Coron, Puerto Galera, Anilao, Dumaguete/Apo to get a nice mix of diving. If you like the relatively quieter places, you can also check out General Santos. What's your budget?

    Recognize these Voit Fins?

Hi All, Something that I inherited from my grandfather: I'm pretty lost with trying to find more info about them. A GIS of "voit fins" only come up with the traditional UDT duck feet fins I've seen, so I was wondering if anyone knew more about these one? I'm curious if they were a newer...

    Subic Scuba College...

So that settles it. PADI's fault. Which brings up a well-known secret in the diving industry - when in doubt, BLAME PADI. :)

Do divemasters join you on boat dives, or are you on your own?

the former. It's standard to have a dive guide/dive master with you on all the dives. Usually comes with the price of the dive (boat, weight belt, tanks, DM). Where did you decide to go?
