I've never paid attention to the type of flies....but there are flies all over and I would suspect sand flies are always an inherent risk when traveling around [-]the PI[/-] South East Asia. I do know sand flies can be carriers of dengue, and if there is a correlation between sand fly...

Welcome Gunter. Just wanted to let everyone viewing this thread that Gunter pioneered the diving in Coron and is one of the reasons we get to enjoy these WWII wrecks today (as well as Gunter's Catheral). Thanks for that, Gunter. Coron is a beautiful place.

for six weeks, you have lots to choose from. I would try hit up Sogod Bay (potential for whalesharks in Nov), Coron, Puerto Galera, Anilao, Dumaguete/Apo to get a nice mix of diving. If you like the relatively quieter places, you can also check out General Santos. What's your budget?
