CCR course - yes or no?

I was told in my last class that 90% of RB deaths have occured when the diver was by himself (meaning diving solo, or buddy was off somewhere else). That was a very sobering thought. Another discussion was on the relationship between divers who use pre-dive checklists and those that don't...

    Best San Diego Tech Shop?

For Tech, I think The Scuba Center on Camp Pendleton matches your request the best. They can blend/fill anything on-site. Yes, you can get on base, their website is www.escubacenter.com, call and Ray or Megan will tell you how.

    Liquid Ventilation?

I think there were two challenges for which a satifactory solution has not been created; one was the removal of the C02 and the other issue was the work of breathing. Moving a liquid is tough. I think the medical field was looking at some form of artificial respiration system.

    *&^$ PADI PIC envelope!

One of the local dive shops here now is very strict on each student having a current manual for the class. Seems some individual successfully sued stating that she would not have been hurt if she had not shared the manual with her husband. I guess I can't fault the LDS for their position now...

    Conger eel encounter

My experience is that generally eels are territorial, and I have heard second hand stories of people getting followed and bitten, but its usually viper eels. I've had a few conger eel encounters and did have one come out and try to nibble on my fins. I don't think it was attacking for two...

    Unusual behavior

I do not believe they were performing any form of mating or courting. The 3rd puffer that was hanging with the 2 had very similar markings to the one being bitten. The puffer fish doing the biting was different in color, though I believe was a spotted puffer. Since these animals have a very...

    Unusual behavior

I was diving Maui last week (back wall of molikini) and had an interesting encounter. After entering the water I looked down and saw 3 spotted puffer fish about 50' below, these 3 puffer immediatedly started up to me - Unusual thing #1. As they approached I noticed one was attached to the...

ScubaPro Air2 Good/Bad or just Ugly...?

As was mentioned there are opinions that are strong on both sides. Which ever you decide, please be sure you and your buddy practice OOA drills with the gear, know and can operate each others gear, and have your communication signals down. I use both ways depends on my diving. For photo...

i said "in 3yrs i'll get a KISS"... SHOOT me now!!

Almightly, One suggestion, if it suits you, you might try reading Jeff Bozanic's book "Mastering Rebreathers". Its really an overview of the units out at the time of writing, but more is explains a lot concepts etc. Such things as the pro's and con's of various designs may be of interest...

i said "in 3yrs i'll get a KISS"... SHOOT me now!!

Almitywife, That sounds great, we need a lot more women on the dark side. I do suggest that you too do as many 'try-dives' as you can. One lady mentioned to me that she preferred a particular model mostly because it fit her body better, others hurt her back. So while common spares etc...

To Nitrox or not to Nitrox..?

Several folks have given you the basics. Another thought you might consider is Nitrox becomes a benefit when you have to surface due to reaching your NDL and yet still have lots of air left in your tank. So if you're currently go through a tank very quickly, nitrox most likely will not be of...

Do you fill out your dive log??

Now I always log real dives, but not 100% get signed. After 2 years of diving I stopped logging them for the next 15 years. I went back for some training and it bit me hard, had 500 dives but very few logged, most annoying. So I log any dive over 20 mins now.
