    Sidemount Instructors

Does anyone actually teach ring bungees? I thought that was a system of the past. I may have to revise my post in another thread about there being three major systems currently taught.

    Do I need sliding D-rings?

Been there done that, I like the Dive Right better.

    Do I need sliding D-rings?

This isn't strictly correct. If you dive MX style with loop bungees the torque is what holds the tank in position. This is especially true with AL80s. I think we tend to forget in these conversations that there are at least three distinct sidmount styles being taught, and God knows how many...

Xccr dump on non x bladder, and related auto dumps on bmcl

Yes, it's a standard dump, one.of.the Oxy Check kits. Water only gets in standard dumps when you use them. I cut the cord off mine so it's an OPV and water flush only. If I'm bailed out I dump through the DSV.

    Do I need sliding D-rings?

I recommend the Dive Right sliding Ds. Stainless Steel Sliding D-Ring - Dive Rite If you'r going to be changing cylinders or gasses regularly you will have to adjust you'r fixed Ds every time. For me, LP85s stay negative, but they do get lighter and the bungees pull them up, so they need...

Xccr dump on non x bladder, and related auto dumps on bmcl

I used a standard pull dump and trimmed the spring to the pressure I wanted. Works fine as an OPV and water dump, but the loop would have to full up to auto dump and that sucks on bailout.

    Do I need sliding D-rings?

Umm, I move my LP85s during the dive in fresh water and certainly in salt water.

My first Sidemount Kit, piecing it together

It's well worth a years subscription if your self teaching. Those guys have put thousands of hours into making that content.

Gradient Factors - What is Everyone Using?

I'm more in the set it and forget it camp. Even if you can get away with less deco on smaller dives, GFs makes less total difference in those dives anyway. I'm running 50/65 at least until my PFO closure is verified. I doubt I'll go above GF high of 70 after that though.

    How to proceed ?

I believe that SSI "Intro to deco" class does not include advanced nitrox, so 40% is the best deco mix.

    Peacock Springs Reopening...

I was there Wednesday. A bit tanic in Orange Grove but not enough to cause nav issues. Cave was clear except the intro class going on. It took me a few to orient myself in the parking lot as it's totally different. There are some new logs in Challenge and in Olsen. P1 is overgrown with...

    Storage Temperature for Revo

My gear is stored in the garage in Colorado. Temps rang from 0F to 100F. I think it will be alright. Don't try to use frozen O2 Cells, but they usually do fine once they warm up.

Question What mix to use for 200ft (60m)

I didn't say SW, I said a unit that let me maintain my configuration. The SW is not the only option.

Question What mix to use for 200ft (60m)

People can decide to dive any unit without a hud. I'm not one of them.

Question What mix to use for 200ft (60m)

Not disagreeing with those that say starting with a back mount unit is the best way to go, but it does depend on your history. Personally I had 500 + side mount dives and only ~50 back mount dives and none with doubles when I went down the CCR path. I'm sure getting something that let me...

The curious case of AI. Do you use a back up SPG while using AI?

I'm having trouble with new rubber hoses from DGX. Several of them have had micro leaks out of the box. Slow enough to hold pressure over 24 hours when staged, but you can see the bubbles on the hose. Just had one completely die on an O2 tank I had staged in Ginnie, fine one day champagning...

The curious case of AI. Do you use a back up SPG while using AI?

I've lost 4 HP hoses in the last year and only 1 transmitter failure. That's almost enough HP hoses to pay for a transmitter. My standard config is side mount with transmitters and gauges on all stages and deco bottles.

Dive knives when out with a DM

The other day I was cleaning my RB at Ginnie Springs. Some drunk guy walks up and says "you got a dive knife? Somebody has there foot stuck in their Croc and it's cutting off there circulation". I handed him my shears witch handily cut the shoe in half. How might that have gone had I given...
