    Problem with trim using doubles

It sounds like you've got too much air in the suit. You should have as little air as possible in it. Use the BC for buoyancy and just a small squirt of air every 30ft or so in the suit to soften the squeeze (note: not eliminate it). If you can feel air in your feet you've got too much air in...

Why Stainless Bolt Clips In DIR?

    Sweet!! Thanks guys!! DSAO!!

    Snaps and Clips

I've found a square knot works well. Just make sure you burn the ends up to the knot allowing them to melt the knot very slightly. When doing this correctly your knot will never come undone. DSAO!!

    Thanks! I'd appreciate that! DSAO!

Why Stainless Bolt Clips In DIR?

Hey Rick, It's not the knob that cuts your thumb..... brass is much softer than SS (as I'm sure you know) and the action of the knob and slide sliding back and forth serves to actually sharpen the channel where the knob & slide move. When the knob and attached bolt is pushed down as when...

Why Stainless Bolt Clips In DIR?

Brass will cut your thumbs, SS won't. My wife this weekend had a brass clip on her SPG and her thumb was cut up so bad it was bleeding. Very painfull. Pop on a SS boltsnap and that problem is gone. Also, I have noticed a difference in corrosion resistance and I'd suspect that brass clips...

    Fills

No, I don't blame them either. They have to keep their ducks in a row with regards to liability. I'd really like to see an independent analysis but don't think it makes enough difference for someone to spend the time on it. I think most of the stuff you hear is just someone's opinion or...

    Fills

This article looks more like a "CYA" (cover your arse) to me. Many mentions of "the Law" etc. Also I found this to be interesting... "A cylinder is full when an accurate gauge shows the marked service pressure at a temperature of 70 degrees F. " So when will that cylinder be at 70 degrees...

    Fills

If you're doing straight fills (either air or premixed) I don't think it would matter one way or the other... if mixing, especially with Trimix it's a different story... If you do your own you (usually) have the luxury of time and can do them very slowly so the heat issue is a moot point...

    DIRF, A Sobering Experience

Actually James you should be neutral (at 15-20ft) with 0psi in your tank. This is in the even of a catestrophic loss of gas and you're sharing air. The general rule for buoyancy: Be able to ascend from depth with full tank(s) and 0 air in BC Be able to maintain 15-20ft stop with minimum...

    Good price on Halcyon wings?

Yeah, Lloyd Bailey's in Gainsville is about the cheapest you'll find a new Halcyon wing... at least from an authorized dealer. I have seen several used ones and even picked up my 65lb wing that way. Much cheaper than a new one but was in great shape. Keep your eyes on GUE gear exchange...

New to DIR, have some questions.

That's right James. If you want Soft webbing Ginnie Springs has it. That's where I got mine. Someone there probably didn't know what they were doing when they ordered it. I had to go to Extreme Exposure to get the right stuff... seems they have a lot of the right stuff at that shop.. :D...

    How to plug Thermo manifold?!?

Skip the 200bar and order a 300 Bar from Divers Supply (Sea Elite). It's the SAME EXACT manifold as the Halcyon but for only ~$160. You won't need the yoke adapters on doubles and the 300bar din will allow you to screw your din regs all the way down into the manifold not leaving exposed...

    zeagle and apeks

Agree with ya on that one... I've got one TX100 for backgas and the hose routing on it is sweet! As soon as I can afford it I'm getting another one so I'll have a matching set on my doubles! I also have several other Apeks I use for stages with the DST first, TX50 second. Same internals as...

    5 or 7 Foot Hose

It's not like that at all it goes around the back of your neck and into your mouth... nothing constricting at all. It doesn't wrap around your neck... You're getting it confused with the NDS (noose diving system)... That used to be practiced in the old west... mostly by horsethieves and...

    5 or 7 Foot Hose

Do you plan on doing ANY cave or wreck diving? If so get the 7ft hose. The 5ft is too short for two people to exit one in front of the other through a restriction. I cavedive, wreckdive and openwater dive with a 7ft hose and have no problems with it in any way. So does my wife. Route it...

    DIR Updates

Agree DD, Your signature is hilarious by the way! Most of the gear that "DIR" uses has been around a very, very long time (it wasn't invented by the wkpp) and it's brilliance lies in it's simplicity! Most of the "new stuff" that's out is largely a product of marketing not need. DIR...

New to DIR, have some questions.

DIY = Do it yourself. All webbing is NOT created equal.... there's stiff webbing and there's soft webbing. If you decide to build your own harness (or even if you get it from someone else) make sure you get the stiffer webbing. I have now put together 3 backplates and the stiffer...
