    Ok...

Yo O... Why don't you just use the 55# with the 80's? I do and it works fine. I actually have a 65# now that I wear with my 104's but that's just because I got a great deal on it and I needed another (the wife is now a cave diver too!). I know 55# isn't needed for 80's but it's not that much...

Rigging for 2 left deco tanks

No problem, I didn't mean to just throw a bunch of links at ya but since you've already read them all I'll just say the most important thing I think is to get the correct tank (Luxfer). Others can be way too heavy and hang too far down. A couple of the guys I dive with have heavy 80's (don't...

    LP, HP or aluminum

Are LP 104's heavy? You bet! This is weight I can use though. Overfilled or not the LP 104's have great buoyancy characteristics for drysuit diving. If you aren't diving dry you shouldn't be diving any type of steel tanks... unless you are POSITIVE you can EASILY swim them up from max depth...

Rigging for 2 left deco tanks

Sure.... here are some links that should help out.... http://www.northeastdir.com/images/pages/stage_close_2.htm http://www.wkpp.org/articles/Gear/equip_moreimages_3.htm http://www.gue.com/equipment/equip-anatomy.shtml http://www.gue.com/equipment/jj-hogarth.shtml...

Rigging for 2 left deco tanks

I dive DIR (Cave) and don't have to move air to one side or the other to maintain trim.... If you use Luxfer tanks and use correct rigging and regs for stages/deco bottle they won't be overly negative and won't make a difference how many you hang on the left side. I had two stages (AL80's)...

    Wings

One should dive a drysuit with very little gas in it to begin with. The suits buoyancy shift should be minimal in the event of a flood. I've had my DUI TLS350 soaking wet inside (bad dump valve) and didn't notice any difference in buoyancy. 400G Thinsulate is hydrophobic and will still keep...

    Wings

Hi Josh, One thing no one here has mentioned is that you should strive to balance your rig. If properly balanced you should be able to swim up from depth with tanks in the event of BC failure and be able to stay at 15ft with nearly empty tanks and no air in your BC. It's that simple...

Just curious.... are you diving wet or dry? Why steel stages? What do you hate about backplates so much?

Trimix courses - where to start?

I'd say find an instructor and ask him/her. GUE Tech 1 is another possibility. You don't need any prerequisites for that one... except maybe DIR Fundamentals but depending on the instructor you may be able to take that one without doing the DIR Fundamentals class first. Although it is...

    Does ANYONE pass DIR Fundamentals??

Wow, just read your report.... all of it! Nice!!

    Does ANYONE pass DIR Fundamentals??

Ok, I know it's not a pass/fail but.... It just seemed like from all the reports it made everyone feel like they had failed. Some even contemplated giving up diving altogether.....

    Does ANYONE pass DIR Fundamentals??

Any of you guys who did DIR Fund. class have ANYONE that passed? I've never heard of anyone passing... does it happen?? Does any one group (like cavedivers) do better than others?? I'd like to take the Tech1 class but you guys have all scared the bejesus out of me! I think I'm a pretty good...

DIR and Pony in position of canister light

Yep, that and to avoid gas loss when you can't see the reg. I was doing a scooter dive a few months ago and my buddy was in front of me. I noticed his stage reg start bubbling away (not totally freeflowing but definately loosing gas) so I flashed him and reminded him to shut off his valve. If I...

DIR and Pony in position of canister light

Oops, sorry Eric. You're right there.... pony where the cannister goes would not be good if larger than 6cuft. He COULD rig it like the Argon bottle is rigged on the left for wreck. A lot of guys use the 14cu ft lp argon bottle rigged that way. Of course it would be pretty hard to hand off...

DIR and Pony in position of canister light

I don't understand your post Eric... are you saying that no matter how it's rigged a "pony" is a pain to dive with??? I don't use "Pony's" but use stages all the time (AL 80 stage and AL 40 deco bottles) Even something as big as an AL80 is no problem at all to use in the water (rigged as a...

    Some cave pics from Akumal....

Nope, not with Connie but she was there for a few days while we were. It was through Aquatech Villas deRosa which is the same place Connie does the trips with. Our guide Gonzalo was great though and showed us a lot off the beaten path! I'd highly recommend Aquatech if you're contemplating a...
