You were a complete jerk!!! ok, just kiddin... you were cool...
After I posted I thought it was probably a dumb question... uhh... how many guys move here from Alaska to cave dive??? Probably not a great number... ;)
Hey Divesherpa... did I see you at Ginnie about a month ago, maybe a month and a half?? There was someone with an Alaska tag leaving the turkey roost area just after I took off my gear and I said something to him about a long drive and he said he had moved here.... I totally forgot about that...
sigh.... cave diving 6 days a week?? Man, that's sweet and I know EXACTLY what you're saying!!!
For all the bad press that cave diving gets it's pretty dang relaxing 99.999% of the time!
Just don't get complacent... that's where we loose cave divers.
DSAO!!
LOL!! I was in Ft Lauderdale/Pompano last week and you got that right about thousands of Yankees moving to FL. I thought I had gone to NY/NJ!
Damn Yankees!!
That'd be one heck of an engineering feat Bob.... The Floridian Aquifer holds more water than all the Great Lakes combined!
You'd probably be better off trying to lower sea level a few hundred feet.
Time to launch your evil genius plan to start global cooling... hmmm, I knew there was...
I've got the TLS 350 with the rock boot system. I've never worn the rock boots due to the fact they won't fit into my Jet Fins. I wear my regular wetsuit booties (they were a little large to start) over the sock feet of the drysuit. This works great for me in the caves of N Florida but I don't...
I posted some photos my buddy and I took on a scooter dive at Jackson Blue in Marianna, FL the weekend before last.
Check them out here... http://www.cavediver.net/_disc/00001546.htm
Also, if you are interested in cave diving in general check out this board. There is a lot of good info...
Yeah, you're right... I just do what I'm told... by people with THOUSANDS of hours of Technical diving.... it's called instruction... or haven't you heard of that??
Look, there's no need to re-invent the wheel here. Pretty much everyone.. DIR or NOT agrees that burst disks are BS.
Someday...
Troll....
Even so...
Doubling burst disks or even shiming them in Steel tanks isn't a DIR thing... it's a cave diver thing. Almost ALL cave divers do it DIR or not.
Burst disks are a BS failure point.. tanks in Europe don't have them.
Almost all cave divers overfill their steel...
Hi Dee,
Just watched the video you linked to. Interesting since I was just at Peacock (in the Peanut Tunnel) and Telford this Saturday.
In general it's best to avoid touching the cave but sometimes is necessary and generally accepted practice.
As far as a representation of what it's...
Aviatrr is right. We don't wear gloves in the cave because in the event that you loose visibility (siltout, lost mask, etc) you can't feel the line with gloves on.
The water is 68 in N FL to 72 in Central FL and not cold enough (when wearing a dry suit and hood) to require gloves. The longer...
No, I believe technical diving in general is where gear gets refined and improved slowly and safely and sure the early pioneers of technical diving put themeselves out on a limb and yes they set records doing it, however this is different...
It's the rediculous "go deeper than any other man"...
Won't tell you what you should do but I'll tell you what I do.. ;)
I have a Bottom Timer (Uwatec) and watch backup (Casio - also does depth/time). I print a set of tables from GUE's Decoplanner and laminate them. The tables I print have times ranging from 0 bottom time to 120min bottom time...
Yeah, I thought of the pushing the limits for exploration thing but this isn't exploration. It's stupid. They go down a line to a point then come back up. There's nothing "new" about it. They aren't inventing new techniques the rest of us may use. I just think the depth thing is a dumb macho man...
Back to the video footage for a moment....
The footage at the end of the DIR3 tape was done in High Def by NHK from Japan. It's AWESOME!! One room they are in (I believe it's the Monolith Room at Wakulla) is as big as the Astrodome or it at least looks that way... Footage like that makes me...
