#1 - I'm guessing periclimenes psamathe - seafan shrimp
#2 - Porcellana - Blue Porcelain Crab
#3 - Some type of decorator crab...not sure where to track him down beyond that...
Only one I stayed at was Sunset Waters. Resort was ok, but house reef was outstanding! When we were there, Easy Divers was the dive op. They have since moved to Habitat Curacao, and I know little of the op that has taken over at Sunset Waters.
I don't disagree that panic does some funny things to people, and my beef is not with the divers left behind, but rather with the way the story is being reported. From a news angle, sharks had absolutely nothing to do with this story whatsoever, aside from the news agency using the word to...
Scary story, but the only sharks involved were the ones in their heads. More media sensationalism to gag on. Guess drowning and hypothermia don't kill ya enough for the news to get a good story out of it....
A tech diver diving doubles may very well be negative at the beginning of the dive because of the boyuancy characteristics of double steel tanks. Not really sure of any circumstances under which a recreational diver on a single tank should be any more than 5 lbs neg at the start of the dive, to...
The zip tie in question is the one that holds the corrugated hose on to the elbow or shoulder dump valve on the BC. Even if you are using a BP/W, my bet is that this zip tie is present in your gear. There is also one at the connection between the corrugated hose and your power inflator. There...
As a general rule, proper weighting would make a malfunctioning BC at the surface a non-emergency. Divers should be able to keep themselves at the surface comfortably with no air in the BC and two full lungs. Dumping weights should make the diver MORE positive, but shouldn't be necessary to...
While I don't disagree that you could benefit from doing more dives with DMs or instructors, I feel that after 26 dives, you should be starting to look at cutting the cord as well. However, you and your husband have the same (in)experience level. I would say that the dive club suggestion is an...
During the planning stage for this dive, did you discuss what the MOD (Max Operating Depth) for your Nitrox mix was? Unless you were using a mix that was way hotter than is within the scope of a rec nitrox class, I doubt you should have had much to worry about ox tox at 22m. Calculating and...
That's my point. Throughout the series, I have seen him petrified of sharks, bears, wolves, coyotes, jaguars.....just waiting for him to talk about proper use of the Holy Hand Grenade in the event you come face to face with the Killer Rabbit. :shakehead:
Bear is a fake. That much is clear.
On the other hand, gotta' disagree with the "Les is the real deal" crowd, too. While he does seem to know a bit about survival, he also has a new "wild animals are going to kill me if I'm not careful" comment every week. I am just waiting for the day...
Wow...this probably warrants its own thread, but...
Not a knock on you, but you should probably consider retaking a nitrox course with a different instructor. The above story makes the course you took sound suspect to me, and Nitrox is one of those specialties where it is pretty important...
Playing devil's advocate....
As much as I love sharks and want to dive with them every chance I get, I would have to say that I would hesitate to swim in a beach where a GWS had recently been known to patrol. Don't really want to be in the water with one of these guys unless I have some...
