    ScubaPRO MK20 Mainteneace ??

You have to ask the man. If they install the annual parts kit like they're supposed to then you are getting a fair deal. You see, SP keeps a lid on anything concerning parts or maintenance details. For that reason a parts kit just for the first stage of that reg can go for $25 on the grey market.

    Tank Compressors

People sometimes did these conversions using surplus air compressors from the military. The Cornelius, Kidde and GE aircraft compressors were light weight and pumped high pressure (3000 psi) which made them suitable for homebuilts. The changeover required that the builder fabricate a mounting...

What type of valve do you use?

When I "inherited" a 3500 psi tank with DIN valve it collected dust in my locker for a couple years. It didn't match up with anything I had but I wanted to try it, so I converted a regulator to DIN. I decided I liked the light weight and trim of the HP tank but didn't like the idea of having a...

    Mounting tanks upside down

Inverted tanks have been used over the years. Even today, you can buy special brackets to protect the valving of inverted tanks. The old Scott Hydropac from the 50's had inverted tanks, and 2nd stg regulator mounted on a full face mask, in other words, the first single hose regulator. The...

    Equipment package - Whaddya thinnk?

Kid, some of this stuff sounds bulky and awkward. The three gauge console is a big item. The RIG is too puffy. I know you're anxious to buy something but maybe you should slow up. Packages may not be the answer because it's hard to find suitable items in one bunch. I assume you will be diving...

    Regulator Indecision?!?@?#$???

They're a legend in their own time, and backed by Aqualung. Stores everywhere. If a store is inconvenient, Diveinn sells the LX for $330. Incidentally, the cold water version is the LX Supreme. The only difference is that the first stage has a lower IP adjustment. All have the dedicated 2nd stg...

    Leg cramps during dive

Scuby, if gingko works by thinning the blood, then folks on aspirin therapy should be doubly smart.

    A true story!

I see nothing unusual except for the displacement in time. I started with no instruction except a pampflet "Diving with the Aqualung". I was the 15 year old who taught 3 companions. We were greatly admired in our small town and made the newspaper as the only local owners and users of the...

apeks parts not unique to apeks

Hi Xerxes. I'm from Germany, originally. While in the navy I studied tactics of the battle of Salamis. IMO, the tactics, while brilliant, were not the point. The real story had to do with courage, luck, and desperate solutions. A vignette of history that stuck in memory.

    My Wife's new BC!

Newt, anybody who does marine canvas could sew/fabricate the pockets out of heavy webbing fabric. You can specify kevlar thread if it suits you.

    Tank fills- Wet or Dry?

My personal compressors are only 4-5 cfm but the SCUBA tanks still heat up significantly and have to be topped off later. When aboard a boat I dip the hot tanks in seawater and put them back in the filling line; otherwise, they lose 300 psi. A lot of work but I get tired of hearing the whispers...

Thank God that the article is in Dutch and not Finnish! I've always said that Dutch is just English with an accent. < >:jester:

    Where to buy packages online?

I'm not sure a "package" for these items is available. Why would you care if a Viper might occasionally breath wet if it's an octopus? The side breather is ideal for an octopus, but chances are it will never be used anyway.

    Question from Brazil!

A turret is a revolving member which carries the low pressure ports. Allows the hoses to move right and left depending on the position of the diver's head and BC fitting. A turret regulator has this feature whereas a reg like the TX100 does not. "Swivel" is the American usage equivalent of the...

Atkins Diet Effect on Air Consumption

Flip, I've been meaning to ask you for references to the effects you mentioned. It sounds more like ketone acidosis than ketosis. These are quite different. As far as I know, the Inuit who consume a high fat diet do not show adverse health consequences. I'm not very familiar with the Atkins...

    Equipment / Beginner

Ditch the 2mm gloves. For Bahamas trip go to hardware store and look for brown cotton gloves with plastic buttons on grip. Get a pair of Aqualung Blades (fins) or Mares Quattro or Cressi Frog. Check out the Genesis Resource or Genesis React computer. Much nicer graphics and easy to...

    Din Valves

Sure, you need a valve with 3/4 MPT boss(the large neck) to fit your tank. These are available in two DIN styles, the 300 bar deep thread and 225 bar shallow thread. There are versions of the latter which come with a doughnut insert which, when installed, allows use of a yoke connector if required.

    Oxygen solubility and half times

Piscean, Hi: Yes, agreed. Dr Deco offered those numbers for us to chew on. However, Dr P and I got involved in some partial pressure arm wrestling. It was handicapped by conflicting premises and different units of measurement. If the initial conditions are loaded towards high O2, then there...

    Another irukandji jelly sting...

Northern Queensland? Probably that little critter C. Barnesei. "Irukundji" sounds like a witch doctor's curse. Could be, symptoms are shooting pains, nausea, vomiting, all around headache.

Atkins Diet Effect on Air Consumption

My guess is that the effect that you are describing is only temporary. After a few days, a high protein, high fat/ low calorie diet should cause your metabolism to slow to a new set point and reduce air consumption. The carnitine content of a high protein diet should give the dieter a feeling of...
