Ok this is getting to me.
All the experienced/hard core divers think that the cert agencys do to little to teach a new diver what they need to know to be a "good" diver/buddy. Right?
Well what it comes down to is that the avarge joe/jane future diver that is looking to learn to dive HAS NO...
You should always leave some air in the tank so water and critters can't get inside and so you don't have to shell out the bucks for a viz inspection next time you get it filled.
I did a viz on an empty tank that had a little spider and lots of cobwebs inside.
As for water in the tank, if it...
Depending on who you are talking to Skin Diving could even include SCUBA.
Snorkling - floating along looking at the pretty fish and getting a sunburn.
Freediving - going underwater to look at the pretty fish and maybe even shooting it.
SCUBA - taking air down with you to look at the pretty...
Slow and come back after the Simpsons are over and see if it is empty.
Frost can form water in a tank and we know what that can do.
What is an extended peroid? More than 6 months? Drain it, less leave it full.
In a steel tank the o2 can be used up by rust forming( it takes along time) with...
Looking at your compass you should see a line down the middle ( lubber line(not the needle))
That is your center line, if you were laying down that would line up your bellybutton and nose.
Next you should have the needle move so the needle points across the lubber line. The needle will point...
Glad to hear you are doing fine and will be able to dive again.
This goes to show that as afar as DCS goes it doesn't really matter what you do to prevent it.
I have seen more than one DRUNKEN diver, non water drinker, stay past bottom time, come up to fast, bounce and what other things you...
I wuold like to have gotten my hands on his reg to see what the settings were, then dove with him to see what he was doing.
There is no real reason other than fine tuning that tis reg should be having so many problems.
Alot of good ideas have been posted here about being a buddy.
One of the things I harpped on to DM's and the New Inst. that I worked with is that your students will do what they see you doing and not doing. It really doesn't suprise me to see so many poor buddys out there when I would watch...
Once more it is talked about in every lesson and all over the text materials but it is up to the Instructor to teach it and make sure the student "GETS IT".
It is true that most of the cert agencys are training to the level of "warm water gudied diving" because that is what most of the divers...
It is kind of hard to tell the difference in most same catagory reg's from breathing in the shop.
You can tell a low end from a high end reg by how eazy it "cracks" how much effort it takes to make the reg start breathing. But that is about all.
Alot depends on your budget and the type of...
Pool dives wont do any damage to the o-rings in your regs that I am aware of and I've done 1000's of them and never really rinsed them other than a splash.
On the other hand I have a Seaquest BC that is turning orange and a Scubapro wetsuit that the stitching turned pink and I did rinse those...

Never been but it is where my boss when I worked on ST. Croix would go on vacation.
Saving my pennys.
You can seal pretty much any 1st stage.
But if freezing up is a real concern i would recamond a diaphram and have it oil filled unless it is supposed to have vodka in it.
Sealing a piston reg requires a type of grease that will trap grit and grime and salt.
Then you don't have to worry...
Mike has a very valid point (hands busy).
One thing i would like to add when you do this put the tip of your tounge to the back of your top teeth, like when snorkle breathing.
Let the reg hang loose in your lips and the bubbles will escape.
I have my G250 set to free flow if i open my mouth...
It was a plastic housed Oceanic SPG it had gotten saltwater in the tube and rotted out (had not been used in a couple of years) and the case was cracked where the threads were so it gave way before the plug did when we hooked it up to do a pressure check before disassambly.
Only time I have...
Most of my students would have said no mask breathing and replace & clear.
Hold the top, dont touch the bottom, look up alittle, blow.
I would tell you it will be midwater compass navagation.
