    Attacked for your air supply?

Yes Yes and yes Twice I have had P-word experienced divers pull my reg and then try to bolt. Both times I got my Air2 and rode them to the surface. Multi P-word surface assists and they will try to climb on top of you. On one dive (like a fool) I didn't check the psi in a tank I got from...

    Personal Incident

Stockton is about 2 hours south of KC, just before Lake of the Ozarks, the vis is about 10-15 on a good day (early season). Norfork is one I forgot to put on my list. My point was there is alot of "good" diving in the KC-Stl area where you can build your skills that takes less time and money...

    Personal Incident

As far as not getting to dive much cuz you live in Missouri.... Missouri has several great lakes for diving Table Rock, Stockton and not to far is Beaver and Bull Shoals. Sure the vis might not be as good as Bonaire or have the pretty coral and fish but there are lots of fish to see and if...

    Minimum proficiency

But still 60 feet in a lake in Missouri in Nov. is alot different than 60 feet in Bonaire in July. How about this, If you wouldn't freedive it you shouldn't scuba it with out proper training (deep/cave) and if you wouldn't swim in it you shouldn't scuba it. (the conditions) I teach...

    DM'S or DMC's

I was a Divemaster Long before I became an Instructor and will always think of myself as one. I do have a problem with this though ".(Helping new students deal with issues that instructors just don't have time for, considering time, and the interest of the masses)". I know that DM's should...

Dive table - help me understand please.

I would go back to that Instructor and tell him " I am paying you to teach me not have me home study". I am all about the home study and teaching of diving so don't get me wrong but... Sometimes the tables are best covered in person.

    Personal Incident

Sounds like you both had a learning experience. 1. You should learn to be able to dump your BC with either hand so that shouldnt be a problem. 2. Have her start planning and leading your dives so she becomes less dependent on your experience. 3. Get some kind of device to be able to bang...

    Best Place For New/er divers.

On the list Nassau Reef is better than Cancun & less currents (normaly) Sharks Blue hole Wrecks Night life, shopping, casino, good food That said I would tell you do the Keys first so you wont be thinking wow this isnt really that good after you have been to Bonaire or Honduras.

    stupid newbie/snorkling/knives

In the ocean the chances are slim you would ever need it, I only have used mine for cleaning line off the reef. Now if we were talking fresh water I would deffinatly take 2 or a knife and shears. I have been tied to the bottom more than once and 3 times while snorkling.

    Blood in the mask

Reverse sinus overpressure issue. It is quite common and most people that have it happen never feel a thing and don't have problems clearing the ears. I would see it in about 1 out 50 divers/students. Not a real big thing to worry about, that I am aware of.

    Coral Burns --> Right Away!!

If you look closely at that picture you will see fire coral (mustard brown) mixed in with that flower coral. I wouldn't like to think about what would happen if you were cut by the flower coral (the later infection) and being stung by the fire coral (the instant burn). Seek med. help.

Open Water Check Out Dive Questions

Drysuits are for wussies.... Im kidding I used to dry dive didnt like it. I used to dive senic Smithville Lake this time of year in a 5mil farmer/jacket hood and gloves with a buddy that would do it in a 3 mil (he never got cold). Tablerock/Beaver is a little warmer and you should be fine in...

    How much lead? Bad advice?

her 4lbs wetsuit 18lbs Al80 @ 500 4-6 lbs I gave her 28 she was about 1 lb heavy with 700psi The point of the story was that she wasnt comfortable with her buddy/Inst that made her think/need all that extra weight.

    Where would you go?

The dogs are a problem for you to move out of country. Alot of places make it VERY HARD to bring pets with you. I would second S. Florida lots of great places to live and work and dive to get the training to take the DM/Inst class. I use to be a PRODive basher (one week wonders) when I was...

    How much lead? Bad advice?

Something else that pertains to amount of weight worn in the students/divers comfort level, but I never see that addressed. I had a AOW student that swore she needed 38 lbs, we did a bouyancy check w/o gear just mfs and she needed 4 lbs, I knew her wetsuit took 18 lbs to make netural. So I...

Ive been bitten by fire coral more than once, a couple of times to save some silly tourists that didnt know what they were doing. It does burn ALOT but my longest was about a week. One time I got fire coral'ed and man o' war'ed on the same dive. I would go see a skin DR if I were you.

Out of Air Incident - Assistant Instructor

After that Rescue Course talk to a few Inst. telling them what you goals are. Then narrow it down to a couple that are willing to let you sit thru their O/W class and pick one to take your classes with that did the kind of job teaching that you are will to help with.

    Do you like diving?

If I get the gist of the ???? its not about the type of diving it's being u/w breathing that matters. SO Yes I like diving I used to dive in places that you saw as much with your eyes closed as open. Just to be underwater. And I had a great time in pools even. But I do love the 80/80 diving...
