    Mk10

Wow a Mk6 havent seen one of those in years its pretty much a Mk5 as you said. The 109 is a great reg mine went thru a carfire in 81, replaced the rubber parts and still use it. Turned the chrome kind of yellow( i think it breathes better than before the fire)

    How about if ?????

We just go back to the good old days of SCUBA, you know when a wanting to learn to be a diver person just went to Sears to buy their gear, the fire station for the air and were told "When it gets hard to breathe start swimming up, but slower than your smallest bubbles". (The way my uncle...

I am going for my AOW soon, what electives are the most useful?

As stated you have to do Deep and Nav. I would tell you PPB (you use it everydive) we did it as the first dive of the AOW class it helps get the diver used to the site/gear and we did it in full deep gear so there were not any suprises the next morning when we did your deep dive. S/R it...

Things you should know (and didn't learn in OW)

I agree with AnnMarie. I also think you it should be required that a person has taken CPR before they get out of highschool. The store I ran had your course plan laid out when you signed up, Classroom/pool then O/W weekend, skip a weekend, AOW/ppb weekend, skip 2 weekends then Rescue...

    simple 1st timer questions...

Wow Ok lets think on this one, maybe you learned on one of those HUB bc/reg combos? The tank conects to the 1st stage which is connected to your primary 2nd (the one you use) it should also have an other 2nd (safe second, octo, AIR2) for your buddy or even you in the event of a problem. The...

Should instructors who work for shops be able to certify people?

Its the I'll give anyone a c-card so they can buy gear. Do you think that Cavedivers shouldn't give gear advice to people that just want to be vacation divers? (fish watchers)

    atomic vs scubapro

If you want a sealed reg you really should go with a non piston reg. Sealing any piston with any kind if lube is asking for long term problems. Lube holds grit and salt. Hated the stuff saw lots of it back in the day.

    Mk10

A mk10 is/was a newer version of the mk5 first stage. The biggest difference between the 5 and 10 other than size was that the piston only travels in the upper body and it was supposed to align better that way. You could mate up just about any 2nd to the mk10 and be a happy diver. I still...

    Salt Water Buoyancy

I have noticed what you are asking about the VI was different than Bonaire, The Bahamas,Cozumel and Roatan. All by about 2-4lbs + or -. I weighed the same, same gear ,same amount of beer.

Things you should know (and didn't learn in OW)

Most of what you listed was included in the PADI course work before the format was changed to "Here is a dvd, watch it then meet me at the pool". We talked about signaling devices and there need and about the different kind of BCD's, way back in the day even heaven forbid i say it planning Deco...

How do I detune my oceanic reg?

Looks like a remodeled Omega 2nd to me and those can be kind of twitchy, both from salt build up or from even a little grain of sand comming in from the mouth piece. Could also be 1st stage pressure leaking past 2nd so make sure you get line pressure checked . Very eazy breating reg though...

Your Opinion On My Equipment List

I personaly would tend to stay far away from Poseidon regs. It's not they are bad breating regs they are one of the best for any depth. just hard to find parts/service and kind of picky about how they are cared for. This is comming from a Poseidon tech.Me. Cant go to wrong with a sherwood reg...

Do you fill out your dive log??

I quit logging fun dives after about 300 when I lost all my log books, I kept a training log book when teaching so the students saw me doing it so I wasn't teaching "Do as I say" As A DM on a live aboard I would sign books all the time and when checking Cert's I whould ask when and where was...

Is someone thinking of becoming a SSI Instructor?

    which course is best?

"Most agencies do teach similar skills, but at least two of them also teach important skills PADI does not require." Which skills are you refering to?

    which course is best?

Well I do know the history of diving instruction. My first Instructor was LA county/YMCA/PADI certified and I have lived freediving/SCUBA for over 40 years now. Those were the givin alternatives that the owner of the shop I ran wanted us to offer because over the years the customer quit...

    which course is best?

Nice of you all to be passing judgment... I ALWAYS told every future diver that walked thru the door that they would get better training and be a better buddy if they took the 6 sunday 3hr in the pool 2 classroom weekend open water course and then signed up for ppb then AOW then Rescue...
