Cancun shuttles to ferry in Playa del Carmen to Cozumel

Last time I flew on business, I needed something I could pay with my corporate card so I went with the “taxi official” white booth that is there when you get off the plane. I thought they would be super expensive, but I paid only $1200 which is USD55. No trying to coordinate pickup on WhatsApp...

    Hi from NorCal

Hi! I’m moving to San Francisco in three weeks myself, looking forward to getting a taste of local diving up there! I hear it’s great, despite the cold.

IST dolphin tech BCD- any experience with brand?

I have an IST mask which is pretty good and cheap, and their hardware seems to be as good as dive rite’s. However, I did buy a mesh gear bag from them that was a dud - started falling apart at the seems in less than three months. So, hit and miss in my experience.

Any dive companies that pick up from Playa del Carmen to dive Cozumel OR from the ferry in Coz?

There at least used to be another one doing the crossing called la Bestia, as recently as this past December. Can’t confirm whether it is still running or not though, haven’t been over to Coz since February.

Tips for first time diver, trouble equalizing ears

When I have problems clearing it usually helps to back up a bit, pull the mask off my face, blow my nose like I would on land (cover one nostril with my hand, blow, then the other if needed), replace the mask. That’s helped me clear even the most stubborn blocks.

Any dive companies that pick up from Playa del Carmen to dive Cozumel OR from the ferry in Coz?

Depends on conditions and what specific dive site you are headed to. Xaman-ha is the faster boat, and can do under 50 minutes to Santa Rosa wall if I remember correctly. Over 60 if conditions are “sporty” - and the ride can be very bumpy. The other boat is slower and bigger. It’s more stable...

Any dive companies that pick up from Playa del Carmen to dive Cozumel OR from the ferry in Coz?

There are at least two dive boats that make the daily crossing, and most shops in Playa just book the seats in one of them. It is way more convenient than the ferry, definitely gets you back earlier. Some do book you with another shop in Cozumel and send you via ferry, or may do so if you have...

Top 3 favorite cenotes near Playa and Tulum, please

For colorful, more open dives - I actually really like Casa Cenote. Most of it is not even overhead, plenty of light, and lots of life which is rare for a Cenote. I love the crabs all around, there’s a turtle skeleton, and I’ve even seen a barracuda in there. You might like it, and it is a...

Top 3 favorite cenotes near Playa and Tulum, please

Dreamgate and Tak Be Ha are my favorites, though they are both dark and blur the line between cavern and cave which is a concern for some. The Pit is also a classic, though IMO only worth it if you have a clear day with plenty of sun. Zapote and Kin Ha are also amazing if you are ok with a...

    Attachment points

You can also move one of your lights to a hand mount and the others to the pouch. Line cutters over the shoulder or on your computer/compass strap straps or bungees. And you should have plenty of space for signaling devices between your pouch and pockets, no? If not, I’d get a bigger pouch...

Are dive computers making bad divers?

PADI metric dive tables say that you were dead after 20 minutes at that depth. 30, if we break protocol and round your depth down instead of up. You, sir, may be a scuba zombie.

    C370 love it

It does indeed! It’s not every dive, but when it does it, it can be a mood killer. I suspect it might be an easy thing, just getting it calibrated again might reset whatever is resonating. I just don’t know how to take it off the Scubapro hose so I need to take it to a shop. Since I’ve been...

    C370 love it

I have one. Breathes well, but will sometimes “whistle” at depth. May be fixable, I have just been using other regs for the past few months and haven’t tried too hard (only opened it up and cleaned the threads and diaphragm, didn’t work). If it’s not fixed, it can be annoying.

    Finances and Tec Diving

A hard working wife and no kids really helps. Especially when we both use each other’s stupid spending habits to validate our own… We may never be millionaires, but we do have fun! And gear!

Mex Rent A Car in Cozumel

I’ve used Mex in Cancun before. They are part of a bigger Mexican group that owns a few other rental businesses, like Fox and Más. I used them twice through the Rentalcars app, it all went fine. Neither better nor worse than any other budget car rental service. The cars were your standard rental...

Is it safe to dive in the rain?

Coming up from a dive in Puerto Morelos, over a shallow reef, it stated pouring. It looked beautiful from under the water. Once on top, we could see water funnels forming on the sky, way out in open sea. The bit of swell that had picked up with wind and rain lifted us high enough that we could...

    Been busy diving

Great idea! How do you fold it into the compression bag to avoid fold lines? Just roll it up?

    Trim question

You can try lowering the tank band and/or shortening the snap bolt leash to bring the tank up. It also seems that you need rotate the snap bolt so that your first stage is not facing outwards - it should be facing up and with valve facing left (or facing down if you do it Florida style). I dive...

    Weight Pockets on Scubapro Litehawk

I also use the pockets that came stock, and not inverted. Works fine for me. Keep in mind that this means no “quick dump” weights, and make sure that works for you too. Happy diving!!
