Would you stay away from a dive shop that had an accident?

If it’s a long-standing operation with a good record that I have reasons to choose (I have used them before, they come recommended, they offer a service unusual for the region, whatever) then probably not. Accidents happen, I am sure the dive ops favored on this board have had their own share...

Air consumption vs regulator ease of breathing

I’m a simple guy. Easier breathing: good. Harder breathing: bad. Current or position pushing your easy breathing reg into constant flow? That’s what the adjustment knob is there for.

    Question Cave Diving Courses advice

Go train where you will dive, and ideally train with a shop/instructor you are likely to continue diving with if all goes well. Will make your life easier. As to one course or splitting it up, once you have the instructor selected ask them how they prefer to teach it. Go with that.

DIR- Generic My "unusual" experience with DIR

Sounds like you are finding value in that club, that you are enjoying the approach, and that you have the money to spend… that’s all you really need 🤷🏻‍♂️

Question Integrated weights for first bp/w

A small loop of bungee through the weight can serve as a small “handle” tucked into the pocket that makes pulling the weight out even easier (I’m not a fan of using them upside down, though some people do that too)

    Help, I hate my Mikron

You can mix brands if you want to. The second stage will simply have to be tuned to the IP of the 1st. I’m sure there are specific combinations with compatibility problems if one of the stages has an uncommon design, but with most widely used regs there is no problem as long as they are tuned...

    Hand mounts?

I’ve found that filming long segments of a dive (let alone a full dive) turns out boring footage that is a pain to go through and edit. You still get a couple of minutes of anything interesting/decent. So, a constant hand mount is not worth IMO. Much better to clip your camera on you with a...

Question Which OPVs are compatible with the Razor wing?

Just to answer my own question in case anyone else is asking the same - the Dive Rite OPV assembly is compatible with the Razor wing. The folks at DRIS reached out to Razor and came back with an answer. Very good customer service experience, even though I hadn't actually bought anything from...

Question Which OPVs are compatible with the Razor wing?

Hello folks! As the title says, does anyone know what OPV type is used by Razor? I can't find the info on their website (which still uses Flash and has dead links everywhere - clearly they are not very interested in an online business or presence, but I digress). Funny anecdote: I wrote to DGX...

Socks to avoid chafing in my boots?

I wear normal exercise socks under my booties, the same I wear to the gym. Never saw the need to buy “scuba socks”, these work great.

Razor 4 or XDeep 2.0 tec for women

I only own a Razor and dive it in Mexico, to put some context. The consensus among cave instructors and guides (I’ve talked to) down in MX seems to be that both are equally fine systems. For the X Deep some don’t like the OPV placing, which is harder to reach and a bit more exposed to damage...

My LDS an authorized aqualung dealer has said things about the legend series that kind of breaks my trust with them. Is this information accurate?

Shallow knowledge by a store clerk is pretty common, especially now that you can do a lot of research online you may find that you often know more than the part-time guy tending the counter. I've heard plenty of blatantly wrong "advice" from very experienced (much much more than me) DMs...

    Recommendation on tech progression

I have no advice, but just a small correction - you don’t need AN/DP for full cave. As in, it is not a TDI requirement.

    2023 Light Travel Regulator Recs

If you REALLY can get away with no rinsing, just letting them dry and stash them… that’s worth quite a bit! Would make them “Dive op proof”, too.

    Cannister lights

You mean for sidemount? Not critical. I have seen plenty of guides in MX using regular inline connections to the canister, it is common practice. So do I and I find it perfectly comfortable - for whatever my non-expert opinion may be worth. Just couldn’t find a good deal on a “sidemount” lamp...

Any recommendations on products that keep your regulator stages and octopus safe. Like a storage box maybe?

During dive days, I usually put them on top of the dive bag or box. Wetsuit over them for padding during transport. At home, they sit loosely coiled on closet shelves. I do have reg bags that I use for transport occasionally, but I’ve mostly repurposed them as tote bags to throw other lose...

Cave Diving Instructors in Playa Del Carmen or U.S.

I used to live in Playa, and am a bit jealous. Living there, you have no reason to rush - so take advantage of that. There are plenty of great options, what I did was make a short list, go on a couple of cavern tours, use the truck time to chat, then go with the instructor you got along with...

    Upcoming Purple Urchin Dive 7/30/23

Ah, I’ll be in Monterey that weekend - getting a drysuit cert if all goes well. So, out for this one but still interested in joining some time!

    Yesterday’s Urchin Dive

I’m in SF and would be on board for a diving excursion north. I already love driving up to the Napa valley, and have been looking for an excuse to get to know Sonoma and Mendocino. If a group thing comes together I could take a couple of passengers.

    Hello from Monterey Bay, CA

Welcome! I’m in SF, moved here some 9 months ago after years of living and diving in Mexico. I finally got around to diving Monterey a few weeks ago - fun but COLD. I will be skipping the 7mm purchase and going straight to the drysuit. Hope to see you folks around!
