I just bought a pair of big bright yellow fins - the black+yellow theme reminded me of my hometown’s taxi colors and I was feeling nostalgic.
I’m betting that this is not a concern, but I’ll let you know if I develop a limp when we get to bullshark season :)
Most commonly I have seen, as said already, bandanas or thin hoods.
I also know a DM/instructor that dives with a common old baseball cap, in and out of the water. He might just put it in his bcd or hold it in his hand during the backroll entry.
February 2001 in Varadero, Cuba. I was 16 years old at the time, and still remember the site and boat very well. I felt like James Bond, Indiana Jones and an astronaut all together - it was amazing.
I also remember the Cuban crew taking the piss out of the non-Spanish speaking customers...
Point taken, I would not argue with that.
I am, and the auditory signal is included in the equipment list on the OW manual too if I remember correctly (along with the snorkel). I just hadn't actually considered buying one until this instance - live and learn.
I didn't think of this, but it is a great point. We did see two fishing boats go by which we could have probably flagged down if we had tried to. I did know my boat's name, we should have probably done that and tried to get them on the radio - or even notified the Coast Guard and ask them to...
Sorry, that would be Playa del Carmen, Mexico - my bad. The DM did have a DSMB, typical bright orange tube. I did take away that I should probably buy and learn how to use one in case I got into that situation separated from the group.
As for the situation itself, I think the DM effed up. He...
Had a bit of a mishap diving in Playa this Saturday. The DM and the boat had some miscommunication which resulted in us (two divers + DM) emerging to no boat.
We were close enough to the shore that we could swim to it, even if it was a bit of a long swim. The sea was calm, no strong current or...
Thank you all! You've been most helpful, really appreciate it.
I'll try to schedule a dive with Blue Dream this Sat/Sun, the see if CenoteXperience will have me for the other day. I could always just swing by, but diving sounds like a better way to meet the team :)
Puerto Aventuras is the one...
Thank you all so much!
I'll certainly shoot CenoteXperience an email, they seem to be a common recommendation on SB. I'll be using the approach @Jayfarmlaw suggested - go fun dive with two or three of the shops that come on the short list, and pick one for a class. I love the cenotes by the way...
Hi everyone!
TL;DR - I am currently living in Playa del Carmen and looking forward to extend my education and training beyond AOW. Do you have any recommendations for a good op here to do training with? I live in Playa so not rushed for time.
For some more context:
My experience with OW and...
I can’t speak for the northern part of the trip, but I drove Mexico City - Playa del Carmen in March. My route went very close to Veracruz, then around the gulf through Coatzacoalcos, Villahermosa - and then through Ciudad del Carmen to Mérida instead of Chetumal. The roads for most of the trip...
Hi!
Consider renting a car. You can get something like a tiny Nissan March for 30-40 USD a day if you book it online in advance, lots of discount offers available. For four people, the per-person cost of the round trip can add up close to the cost of a car for 3-4 days - and the car opens up...
Hi everyone!
New to the board, which was of great help when buying a dive computer a few weeks ago - so thanks to everyone on this board for creating all that content.
I'm originally from Argentina but have been living in Mexico for a few years. Most recently, I've moved into Playa del Carmen -...
